Home wedding reception
Anybody want to share stories / pics / ideas of their home wedding reception? I am hiring a room in a castle for an evening party and am only having a buffet not a sit down meal - has anybody else done this? Did you still have favours, a cake, official photos with family that were not in Florida? Thanks

I am hiring a room in a castle for an evening party
First of all, that sounds AMAZING!!!!! ![]() am only having a buffet not a sit down meal Our home reception was a "drop-in" at my parent's house, there was no sit down meal. We had caterers with trays of foods as well as a buffet ![]() Did you still have favours We had a candy bar as our favor- it was October so it was all orange and brown candy (on sale for halloween! )![]() a cake We struggled with having a cake, and ended up not having one, because it was a drop in- and i didnt want people to feel like they missed us cutting it. If everyone was supposed to come at the same time- i probably would have. Here is a pic of our assorted dessert table ![]() official photos with family that were not in Florida? We didnt' have this- but if i was having it at a castle- what better backdrop!!! We did take lots of casual photos (but it also helps that my sister is getting married in a few months- so i guess we figured we could do more official pictures then! )

We will be doing an at home vow renewal about 18 months after we get married. We plan on doing the whole shebang lol, including family pictures, a cake, and dinner. We really want everyone we love to feel included.
PS wishing on a star, your photos helped me convince DF to use Randy Chapman, thank you

We played off a movie premiere theme and showed our wedding video during dinner which also followed the theme our engagement. I have posted about some of our reception in my wedding report.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread....752447&page=80 In regards to the cake and dancing, we redid both of them. To save on cake costs, we bought a small round cake to cut and used cupcakes for the guests. ![]() ![]() You can see the photo slideshow running in the background here while we're dancing. ![]() For our guests, we had a candy buffet playing off the movie theater theme including having fresh popcorn. ![]() ![]() ![]() We even made our own movie posters to use as decorations. ![]() ![]() We hired a photographer and I'm so glad we spent this money. We got lots of great shots. To save on the photos, hall rental, and even catering we held our reception on a Sunday. ![]()

I love the pics and the ideas since I am doing the same thing! It is really helpful to see what you did back at home.
My reception is 3 months after our VR and it is going to be outdoors. But I really want to do the candy buffet, cake, and popcorn. I love that idea. I may even try to get a cotton candy machine. Now I have to plan on getting some real food!

Like others, we also had a candy bar (we call it pick n mix sweets over here!). It worked out really well.
We also played up the orange theme a lot more, with orange balloons, napkins, cake. My mum even ordered us a Mad Hatter cake as a surprise

We had our local reception at a restaurant. We tried to pull disney into everything that we did. While we ate our DJ played disney songs. our favors were shot glasses with Mickey and Minnie in a heart filled with M&Ms

OK, so here are some of our photos. We had an event at a local hotel on the Saturday night, then my mum held a garden party at her home on the Sunday -we were lucky and had amazing weather!
First we staged a cake cutting (without a knife as there was a mix up!) then took photos in our rrom, where some of our family gathered for a champagne toast. We then made our entrance half an hour after the guests had arrived and did our first dance. We followed this up with speeches, then the proper cake cutting. Food was a buffet provided by the hotel. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then at mum and dad's: ![]() ![]()

wow amazing pictures, thanks for sharing everyone. It will only be the two of us coming over to Florida to get married which is why I want to put as much traditional stuff into the home wedding as possible, however because of costs we are having an evening buffet only not a sit down meal. Iv got some great ideas from your pictures, thanks x

I love the candy bar idea, I want to have it so bad, but I don't think it will work with the type of people at my reception since a lot are diabetic or are just health nuts. Some day I will find a reason to have a candy bar though.

I just had my reception less than 3 weeks ago and I'm still getting pictures back.
Instead of having table numbers, each table was a Disney character. The head table was the Mickey table and then our family tables were our favorite characters - mine being Cinderella and my DH is Pluto. My DMIL used a Cricut machine to cut out the characters. They looked wonderful! Here is a picture of the Mickey and my flowers. My bouquet was actually a hidden Mickey, but it's hard to see here since it is upside down. ![]() For center pieces, we etched Mickey heads onto vases. ![]() Here are two pictures of the cake and the cake table overall. ![]()
