Curious About Specific Room Requests

I see posts from Dis-ers wishing to request specific rooms at WDW resorts. This is not a biggie for me, but I'm curious: The room availability sitch at WDW resorts seems to be VERY fluid--they can't tell from one minute to the next where you'll be when you check in. How on earth does anyone get a specific room???

I think the chances of getting a specific room are very very slim. Maybe if you go at a very quiet time of year you have a chance, but still a slim one.

It's always best to make more general requests, specific area, specific floor rather than a specific room #. There was only 1 time that I requested specific room #'s and I ended up on the opposite end of the resort! If that room # is not available, they just disregard your request.

I would second this as well. We really wanted connecting rooms for our stay at ASSP; traveling with my DD, SIL and DGD. We requested - "quiet area, upper floor and connecting rooms". We got everything and it was so nice to be able to open the door between the 2 rooms and let my 3 year old grand daughter have a lot more space to run around.

the more specific your request (spec. room number) The LESS likely you are to get the request.if that roomn is unavailble, the room assignor will have absolutely NO idea WHY you requested it in the first place

The only request we had was a king size bed at Pop, and we got it.

I agree with OP. I think WAY too many people are WAY too obsessed with room requests. The limited understanding I have from a CM friend is that room numbers are assigned 3-4 days in advance. I've been to WDW about 14 times and 3/4 time I have requested a specific building and maybe half the time I have gotten it. I just submit a request and then laugh about what I actually do or do not get. I fear some people set their vacations up for failure from the start by insisting and believing they are entitled to each and every specific request. FYI- my usual request is for a top floor in a value resort NOT overlooking a pool.

I don't bother requesting anything anymore...I did for this trip.I asked for a room not on the ground floor, since my 5 yr old likes to open the sliders and go out of the room to look around, which makes me nervous .But other than that I don't bother.I never get the requests anyway.

We are probably that 1% that has gotten the Room # that we have requested. The view is very important to us and so we book a certain category which gives us a better chance of getting the room that we are looking for. I then make the request for that particular room #. I also say that just as long as we are in that vicinity of the room that we are looking for, we are fine with that. So far, we have gotten our room all but one time. That one time was same room location, next floor down.

I requested near a specific room. We liked where we stayed at SSR in May, so when we went in Sept, I just asked if we could be near that room because we liked it's location. We got a couple of rooms down with a nicer view

DH and I requested a king bed at the Disneyland Hotel in California this past September and ended up with two doubles. Glad this wasn't our honeymoon trip!

When staying at the Poly, we typically request a specific room in the Hawaii building. More times than not, we get this room (in fact that last 4 trips were in the requested room). When we don't, we are usually 1 or 2 rooms away. Having an aggressive travel agent who is also a friend sure helps. I also assume that club level also helps.

Yes, I do believe club level does help. This is the category that we always book.
