Tri-Circle events

I am planning an August 2010 WLR vacation and I am planning on taking my grandniece and my second cousin, both girls aged 5 and 6 at the time of travel. I know they love animals and we are arriving mid-day on Saturday, July 31. Instead of rushing to the parks I thought we would do the petting zoo and I'd love to sign them up for the pony rides. Any information about pre-arrival times for pony rides, etc. would be greatly appreciated. We are also planning on doing the campfire so if you can add information concerning that event, too it would be great!

The petting zoo is badly named because you can't pet anything. They have some pretty little ponies, but signs say you can't pet them. The pony rides look like they would be fun for kids. DH and I have seen a few kids doing them and from what I understand at one time they did have a petting zoo, but no more. I don't know the times for the rides or if you have to book in advance, but they don't seem real busy when we go by. The campfire program is always popular. Depending on the time of year they start around 7:00 to 8:00. The campfires are lit first and you can roast marshmallows, hot dogs, etc. Then the sing along followed by a movie. I think it would be worth your time. We have only done it once, but DH and I have lots of movies and no kids so unless our stay corresponds with a movie we haven't seen, we usually don't stay for the whole thing, but it is a fun event.

I agree about the campfire and movie, it is a lot of fun!! As far as the pony rides go, when we were there you did not have to have a reservation. As far as the times, I am really not sure. You can always call the campground if you are not staying at FW, otherwise you will get a packet telling you about all these things with times, etc. when you check in.

Back in the old days, the petting zoo had a variety of the usual petting zoo animals - goats, sheep, pigs, some chickens, ponies, a couple of donkeys, even Minnie Moo was there. The salmonella scare and associated liability issues killed the petting zoo (although Minnie Moo died of natural causes). Even FW's signature peacocks were removed because of guest complaints. Now, we have some deer, squirrels and armadillos, and it's probably only a matter of time before someone complains enough about them to have Disney remove them.

Don't forget about the Ducks also.
I wondered what happened to the Peacocks. We use to love them.
