How big is the safe?
I will be bringing my laptop to the world next week. I've been reading up on locks, a lot of people seem to think they're almost worthless, if someone wants your laptop they can easily cut the lock and carry it away.
I don't plan on carrying it around with me, just using it in the room now and then. Will it fit in the room safe?? That would solve my problem and cost me nothing extra? thanks whoa - look at me! 5 days to go

It depends on the resort and size of your laptop. I think mine fit into one or 2 safes, but not others (unfortunately cannot remember which ones)
Obviously, I would not suggest bringing a laptop that would cause you irreversable harm if it were lost. I'm more worried about losing my vacation pictures (memories) than a piece of hardware... the free HSIA makes uploading picures to online much easier.. I try to go with the non-obvious route, hiding a laptop bag inside normal luggage. If you get enough into being concerned, anyone that really, really wants it can get it, you can't stop them. I just try to keep it out of the hands of any oppotunistic hands..

I have taken my laptop on every trip to DW over the last 2 yrs and never locked it and never put it in the safe. Even left it right out in the open on the coffee table. Never have a problem.-- Knock on wood

Definately depends on the size of your computer. I have a tablet notebook and it fits into just about any safe, but a larger typical notebook may not.
As for locking one up, ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY do NOT leave your notebook sitting around, unlocked. Most cable locks are pretty useless and can easliy be cut/broken, an unsecure notebook is just easy prey. Placing your computer within your luggage, etc is pretty pointless as well, because if someone is going to steal something, they're going to first look at the items out in the open and the next ruffle through your bags. You'd be better off placing it under a mattress or something (not that its a good idea either).

Most of the safes at WDW are wall safes. The newer DVC resorts, AKV and BLT have separate safe in the closet which is much bigger. Here's a link to a photo Jack Spence of Allears took for his trip report when BLT opened.
http://land.allears.net/blogs/jacksp...Tower%2081.jpg It definitely looks like a laptop would fit. If believe the AKV safes are of a similar size.

Just stayed at BLT and my latop (14" Dell Insprion) fit in the safe. It was a little snug manuevering it in there. I don't think a 17" would fit, 15" would be close.

My 17" fit in the SSR closet safe. I didn't take it to BCV on last visit but I don't think it would fit there.

Mine is an 13" Macbook.
I'm a trusting soul, but I was leaning towards just putting it somewhere unlikely (dishwasher....washing machine...some place like that) It just has "stuff" on it, I guess I'll just save any pictures to a memory stick just to be on the safe side. thanks for the ideas - if anyone has recent experience with the safes at BCV I'd love to hear it. |
