Should I buy and AP??

our family will be going twice this year~

for 7 days in feb for which we were going to get a 5 day base ticket ($228)
not a pkg so we dont need to purchase any tixs

and 16 days in sept oct for which we were going to get a 10 day base ticket with waterpark and more ($295) free dining so we need at least a 1 day tix but can save that for use whenever
TOTAL $523

this a.m. a friend suggested we get an annual pass - $489 and WP and more $129 TOTAL $618.00

this seems to be the way to go here - we would like to do DQ in Feb but didnt want to pay more and would also like to hop in Sept/Oct, but can't justify the cost when adding it to a 10 day tix

can anyone tell me if I'm missing some important details of if my pricing is way off-right now this just seems to good to be true!

thanks

any days over 10 the better deal is to buy an AP or PAP in your case since you want waterpark access.

You're not missing anything on the pricing.

If you get the AP, you can get the Tables in Wonderland and probably a discount on your room. It could be as good of a deal as free dining if you look at the discounts over both trips. Just upgrade on your first trip to take full advantage of the discounts. You can book at the AP rate even if you do not have it yet. And you can sneak in another trip next year before they expire!

Yes, a 1 day that remains good until used. You can use it for a future trip and upgrade as you wish!! We have a few.

However, I would also suggest checking Post #18 in the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in the TPA&S forum. You can click on the link in my signature to get directly to the sticky.

It shows all current ticket prices. Just remember that you need to add 6.5% tax to all numbers. Also, there is a combination water parks/Disney Quest AP and also consider the Premium AP which is the same cost as the regular AP plus the WP/DQ AP.

And the one-day tickets that you have to get for the dining plan on the second trip can be held and used for when you renew the APs.

thanks for the great responses = I think the AP with wp & More is a great option - but now another question - How do we purchase an AP? DD and I have an unused one day ticket from our trip in Sept 09- If I am reading correctly - can we wait till we arrive, take them to a ticket window and upgrade them? and we get the $70 or whatever teh single day cost is toward the AP with wp and more?

Thanks Chesire for the great link!

Read Post #7 in that thread about upgrading tickets to APs. (And it is completely my thread.)

You will need to wait until you get to WDW if you want to apply the value of your 1-day tickets to the purchase of APs. You can do it at Guest Services or a tickets window.

If you don't use the ticket for admission before doing the upgrade, you will get the price that Disney sold the ticket for as a credit towards the new pass. If you use the ticket to gain admission to a park first, you will receive the current gate price towards your upgrade. This is important if there has been a ticket price increase since your passes were purchased. Just keep two things in mind:
  1. You only have 14 days following the first use of the ticket in order to upgrade it. This applies whether the ticket is no-expiry or expiry.
  2. The anniversary date for the AP will be back dated to the first day that the multiday ticket was used. So if you have are on Day #14 since the first day of use, your AP's expiration date will be one year minus two weeks from the day the upgrade was made.

The current gate price of 1-day MYW base tickets is $79 (adult) and $68 (child) before taxes.

ok The lightbulb just went on - DD and I will go to the park first since there has been a price increase and while inside upgrade for the rest of the trip - I was thinking if I use my day I loose it and it has no value -
thanks all for your patience - this can be a lot to take in

Also, one of my favorite perks of the AP is the discounts and the option to get the TIW card. I can't tell you how much money we saved using those discounts!! DH never wanted to get APs before last year but we did and now he is hooked on all the savings!
