K_a_d_a_n_i!!!!!

Thought I would write a TR on our Kadani trip 10/18-10/23. I always enjoy reading other TRs for the good, the bad and the ugly. Fortunately this trip was GOOD!!! Trippers are me(53) DH(now 54) DS(25) and DSISInlaw(57). We all arrived at MCO about an hour apart from each other- got our rental car and headed to the world at about 10:30 AM. Didn't expect our room to be ready but it was!!! at 11AM COOL!! We had a 1BR Savannah View room 7454. A bit of a walk from the lobby but what a view. We had all the animals everyday- they ate right outside our balcony. My favs are the giraffes-of course. Room was clean and in order. Needed a blanket and one was brought right away. Owners locker arrived within 15 mins of checkin. We spent time at the pool- it was great- lots of fun stuff in the PM for the kids and we enjoyed the music and watching them all have fun. Bus service was quick- we waited 5-15 minutes at the longest for any bus all week. Weather was cool on Sun and Mon but got hotter each day and by Fri it was 89!! The parks weren't too bad. Mostly 10 minute waits but we did get fastpasses for Soarin and Exp Everest.
Food and Wine was fabulous. We ate and drank around the world. Everything was tasty and we tried almost everything in the three days we spent at Epcot. We went to a culinary demo and we really enjoyed it. well worth the 5.00. I thought the food portions were very good for the money this year and when you have a cute 25 yr old son with you the female servers didn't hesitate to give an extra little pour in the wine glass!!!
We ate at two nice restaraunts plus some casuals for lunches. Raglan Road was our birthday celebration night. We had the ham-it's not bleedin chowder-bangers and mash and the short ribs. All were very good and the scallops appetizer and bread pudding dessert were to die for. The music made the night very special and we had a table near the band area and dancer which made it even more special. I must tell you about Sanna. We went for DH birthday lunch. It was the best meal and experience of the trip. It started out a bit bad- the host was not friendly and we wanted a window seat. The place was almost empty and he seated us in a bad spot. We asked to be moved and after "checking at the desk" he reluctantly gave us a window seat. I mean come on- that's half why you go there so you can see the animals. We really lucked out- we got a great server named Ken- he was sooo attentive and gave us special treatment for the bdays. We had alot of food- drinks- bread service with xtra dips- salad sampler- appy sampler-chicken in curry and shrimp in curry- more drinks!!!- and dessert sampler. The food was delicious and like I said the service was fabulous. You must try it!!! We will be going back for sure.
We had a weird ending to our trip. We were packing on departure morning. we didnt leave for MCO until 5PM so we were leisurly packing- we went to get into the safe and it wouldn't open!!!! Our stuff like passports and car keys were in there. We called maintenance and Vicky came up with a gadget that usually opens it- not this time. She called someone else and still no luck- they called someone else and by the time it was said and done we had 7 yes 7 CMS in our room- engineers - head of housekeeping- head of customer relations OMG it was soooo funny- they were sooooo nice and apologetic and they still couldn't open it. They kept trying and trying- they even called the safe manufacturer- they were joking with us and saying we were having a CM party in our room- we offered them coffee and breakfast- they were glad we weren't angry. The head of housekeeping said we could stay in our room until 1 because of the inconvenience. Finally after about an hour- a big guy came and put in some codes and you heard BANG and a cheer- he got it opened!!!! It was a riot. They were all just fantastic and helpful to us. Don't know what was actually wrong with the safe but they got it fixed. BTW as good DVC members we did check out at 11:05 AM so others could start their magical vacation. We now love AKV like our SSR!!!!!

Sounds like a great trip! I will be at Kidani in less than a year! I can't wait!!!

(BTW-off topic, but how can I get my avatar into my signature? I just bought into HHI, too, and I want my signature to look like yours with the two resorts. I hope I love AKV as much as I do HHI!)

Yes, thanks for the review of Sanaa. I was there (but at Jambo house) the week before you. I went to the tour of Sanaa and planned to eat lunch there, but never quite got around to it. I'll look for Ken. Was he one of these 3 guys? They were doing the Sanaa opening the night I went for the tour-

If you don't get Ken, Christopher is also WONDERFUL! (I don't usually remember my waiters.)

Hi minniqt7,
Thank you very much for your trip report. I enjoyed reading it and it sounds like you had a great time. I think Animal Kingdom is a fantatsic resort and I am always glad to hear when others say they same. Thanks again.

OOPS!! KIDANI sorry!! And no - none of those guys were Ken but I think I did see one of them there that day. The waiters were all nice but Ken was exceptional.

We were at Kidani a few weeks ago. We stayed in the Okapi building and had great views of the Okapi and red river hogs.

Kidani means necklace.

Awwww, so glad that you had an amazing trip. That's very bizarre about the safe, though, but it sounds like everyone was in good spirits about the situation.

Glad you had a great trip - we were there the same week as you (10/17-10/23) and we were in Rafiki bldg.

We loved the resort!!! We will have to try Sanaa next time, we had heard great things about BOMA, so we went there (and it was very good)

Thanks for the report - made me daydream a little about our trip!

We stayed at Kidani for 6 nights in August and loved it. Our home resort is SSR but Kidani was very special and we'll definitely be back. We prefer the quieter atmosphere there to the bustle of Jambo House. The CMs are so friendly and we loved the African music they play and, of course, the animals. We went down for a quick trip two weeks ago. We stayed at VWL but had to go over to Sanaa for lunch because we missed Kidani. Glad that you enjoyed it too.
