has anyone reconsidered or cancelled their winter Dis trip due to "this years flu"

just wondering how conservative others are feeling....

we were planning a holiday trip. I have a 5 week old and have reconsidered our travel plans. Not only the time at WDW, but airplane and airport time... just doesn't seem like a good idea with such a young one. We will wait til late spring or summer when baby is established and germ load will be somewhat decreased

When Swine Flu was first out, we were planning a vacation for our family and thought about WDW but DD2 was going to be 2 months and we didn't want to fly then (this was also when they thought it could be way worse than it is). We'll be going in January, of course the height of flu season (in general), and I'm trying to keep our family extra precautious, but we have vacation insurance for a reason. DD2 will be 10.5 months then. With a 5 week old, I'd totally go with your plan.

I have the same concerns, but ultimately decided to still go ob our annual Disney trip in February. My youngest will be 6 months then. I will be nervous with the baby, but I think she will be fine. All of us, except the baby, will have also had the H1N1 virus by then, too, so that makes me feel better.

I always worry that someone will get sick on vacation. But as far as the swine flu...I am not any more worried about that than any other sickness. Every time a 'new' illness (actually the swine flu is not new I had it in 1976) everyone goes into a panic. Every year people will get the flu and every year people do die. This is a fact of life. If your sick stay home...if not go enjoy your vacation.

I think I'd stay home with such a young one, and I'm not an overly cautious person. Plus, the baby will be able to hold his/her head up and maybe even sit up when you go in the spring. As far as H1N1, I'm washing hands a lot, but I'm not changing my lifestyle at all in fear of getting it.

I was very concerned, but went ahead with our Oct plans. Howevre, the flu had other plans for us. Both my girls got sick about a week and a half before we were supposed to leave and we ended up cancelling our trip . My youngest missed almost 3 weeks of school.

I am never overly concerned, like others have said lots of people die from the regular flu every year, but I would be concerned with a baby that young, especially with flying. I think I would wait if I were you.

I wouldnt travel w/ a 5wk old even if it werent flu season. That is coming from a mom though who had a baby a week b4 Christmas in 07 and just after the new year had him hospitalized w/ a fever over 102 and not eating. We had gone to DH's moms for Christmas because she wanted to see him (DH was in on leave from training), and his sister came over too w/ her son who had strep. My oldest caught it, and as hard as I tried to keep him away from our youngest he caught it too. He was in the hospital w/ IVs, heart monitors, and a feeding tube. Not something I would wish on any mother esp a new baby. I would probably wait till they were a little older (like 6m).

I did change my reservations because I don't want anyone catching it on my watch.

We take our neices and nephews and they have to fly to meet us, so between the flying and other vacationers who will go to WDW (some who will be contagious) we just decided it would be better to reschedule. Better safe than sorry.

We did not reconsider or cancel. Swine is rampant where we live, so I figure we can catch it here just as easily. In fact, I'm not real sure that was not what we had a few weeks ago- especially since there have been some confirmed cases in DD's pre-school. That said-I would NOT take a child under 6 months through WDW, airports, and airplanes right now, or really during any regular flu season. If it were me, I would wait until late spring or summer when the baby is a little older.

We are booked to go for Dec 12 -18.We have already had a family meeting and decided that if any of us gets sick within a few days of the trip we will be cancelling. To much of a risk of spreading it to others, and also getting worse while at Disney.I don't know about any of you, but when I get the Flu, I want to be home, in bed not in a resort room.

I so agree! There's no place like home when you're sick.

Oh boy - do I ever agree! I couldn't even imagine being sick that far away from my home, my doctors, the hospitals I know - stuck in a hotel room and facing the possibility of having to fly home sick as well.. That's my worst nightmare!!

i took my daughter to see my parents when she was 6 weeks old... no where near as germey as disney but we did take air travel... she got ill the day after we got back home and it was HORRIBLE she didn't end up the hospital but she couldn't breath i had to hold her up or she would start choaking she couldn't eat... because of this i couldn't keep up a good milk supply and it pretty much killed breast feeding (pumps just weren't working even the rented hospital one) and i was sooo scared... it was awful. I wished i hadn't listened to relatives and taken her to visit at so young an age. Then when we went back again just before her first birthday she caught an awful flu or something from her uncle.... she was in the hospital 2 days w/ iv's they started thinking she was septic and it took 15 trys to get an IV in her she wouldn't eat or drink anything my husband and I were afraid she wasn't comming home her fever was over 105 degrees and medacine couldn't keep it below 102... they did xrays and it was awful... it went away on it's own after slightly more than 2 days in the hospital... the fever was over 102 degrees for almost a week... no way i would take a 5 week old out into such a crowded place, i would move the trip back... we were just at the world and my daughter again got a 104 degree fever and we spent 6 hours of our trip at an ER and many more worrying about her and if our insurance would be decent and cover the visit like they should (tricare... miltary insurance, they treat us like garbage but that's another story). it turned out to be an ear infection and possible strep one day of antibotics and she was able to tour the parks again... but still she was 2.5 and hasn't been sick but twice since the time in the hospital when she was 1 and sure enough her first ever ear infection when we go to disney world

I have no concerns about traveling during this flu season, but we've also all had the swine flu in our household already, plus we only have DS9. With a five week old, I wouldn't be going anywhere near an airport. I'd save it for when your little one is a little older and has some more strength in their immune system...
