I don't know if "Samaritan's Purse" is a legitimate charity or not, but I do know...

that they will NEVER see one penny from my household... In the last 2 weeks we have rcv'd not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6...... but SEVENTEEN catalogs from them. What a waste of money and trees.

I get them with Charles, Chuck, CJ, Chas... with a middle initial, with the 3rd.... with misspelled last names..... on and on it goes.

Write them and let them know why.

I've had other places to send multiple copies of things to me. Never this organization. I bet there is some kind of problem, especially since the number is so excessive. It might be worth your time to contact them.

My first guess is that someone set you up by signing you up under a bunch of names to deluge you with mail.

This is a GREAT Christian organization; it's headed by Franklin Graham, son of Rev. Billy Graham, and the organization's roots are Southern Baptist. They do two big things:

1. They collect shoeboxes, which go to children in various areas of the world. The shoeboxes may be the only Christmas gift the children have ever received. The people at the warehouse add a copy of the gospel (in the native language of the country to which the box is sent).

2. Buying into the idea of "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime", they provide chickens, goats, and other animals to people in third-world countries. With these animals, families are able to provide for themselves.

We've donated to them (through our church) for years now, and we receive only one catalog per year. If you're against their mission or their methods, why don't you write or call and ask to be removed from their mailing list?

Ditto. They are a class act organization and a blessing to many children all over the world who would otherwise receive not one gift at any time of the year for any occassion. I have seen firsthand, children opening those boxes and words cannot express what it means to them that someone on the other side of the world thought of them. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry.

I have been making shoeboxes and volunteering with their organization for over ten years now. Each year I try to make more shoeboxes than the last. I'm aiming for 10 boxes this year.

If someone is mad over mail from them, why not just contact them and sort it out. I'm sure it is just an oversite or someone signed you up for them somehow. These things happen to me on a daily basis and I work for a smaller organization than Samaritan's purse. If there are multiple people working on the mailers, than it would be easy for there to be mistakes here and there. If you truly had some inkling of wanting to help such a wonderful organization, I certainly wouldn't let a few extra pieces of mail stop me from helping a needy child have a memorable day. If not then just call them, sort it out, and move on.

Could be, but that would be a lot of work for something I throw in the trash as soon as I see it....

Papa,
I think that way with all the mailings. I love Toys for tots but I swear I get at least 2 mailings a week from them. How many toys could they buy if they cut that in half?

Same for retail. I swear landsend could cut prices 10% if I didn't recieve a catalog every 2 days.

The church where I work supports them every year, and it's amazing the things they do with the shoeboxes for Christmas.

It is an organization that I detest however I am unable to post why under the DIS guidelines.

They really are a wonderful organization. Our church participates every year. We let our children (now teens) pick out what to put in the boxes. It was hard for them to imagine that the box we send may be the only gift that child receives.

We have donated yearly(usually) for a number of years. I get probably 3 pieces of mail a year from them.
