would you go alone with daughter, 8?
I had planned a mother daughter trip with my friend her DD and now they have backed out.
My DH hubby is going on his annual fishing trip and DD and I are home alone for the 3rd time so I wanted to go to wdw. Problem is I get a little nervous doing things by myself and this is a big thing. I was worrried about it something happened how I would be by myself, etc. I guess I am looking for a little encouragement to go by myself with DD.

I would take my 8yo DD alone in a heartbeat! Talk about an amazing experience for both you and her! Unfortunately, I will never be able to do that b/c her little sisters would never forgive me.
I say you go and have a wonderful mommy-daughter trip! |

I would definately go! Looking at your siggy I see you have been numerous times before. Just think to yourself how things went on your past trips, that you know your way around, maybe stay at a resort you've been before to feel more confident. Make a plan of which parks and restaurants you want to go to and just focus on that. Get your daughter involved and think about having fun!! If you have a cell phone then your hubby is only a phone call away, but I bet there won't be any problems and you and your daughter will have a wonderful time! You can do it!! Good luck!!

No question! I would love to take my DD to WDW just the two of us!!!
I even considered it since DH is in grad school right now and has a ton of work and classes, but we have another DD who is only 6 months old and THAT I would not even want to try.

I'd love to, but the others would be mad!
I would love to travel with just one of my kids - piece of cake! I've flown to Chicago and stayed a couple of nights with a 2, 5, and 7 year old without DH (he stayed home with baby twins). I've also flown with 2 four years olds alone.

I'm taking my 8 year old alone this November. It will be a first for us, but I'm really looking forward to it. The memories will be for a lifetime.

I would LOVE to go with just one of my kids! Or with both of my kids. No DH.
Not that DH isn't great, but the mother-daughter bonding thing is awesome. The only thing more awesome would be to get your DH to drive you to the airport too.

Definitely as a single mom I took my DDs a lot. So much that my middle daughter said she was tired of it. Then she went to the Bahamas with her dad and came home saying she never wanted to go anywhere other than Disney World ever again. (resort that they stay at in Bahamas had a lot of older men in speedos, DD was 16). I have always felt very safe and secure going to Disney when my older girls were 13 and 11 I allowed them to take the bus to MK for several hours by themselves. They were to be back at our hotel by 6, they were back by 5:30 because they were worried about being late. That was 13 yrs ago before cellphones were as common as they are now or as cheap. Go and have a great time with her. She will remember the time Mommy and I went to Disney alone. My older DDs still talk about when they would go to the parks without me. Oldest DD is 10 yrs older than my youngest so I never felt it was fair to hold them back if youngest needed a nap. I am ashamed to say that their favorite thing to do was go into the childswap line and say they just swapped with their parents. They got on everytime. Glad they have the childswap tickets now. Bad kids! But that was the worst thing they ever did so I can forgive it.

I may be 22, but my mom is taking me in December and I can't wait to spend time with her! Disney is probably one of the easiest places to be by yourself, too. I would feel more comfortable going to WDW because of the ameneties and the wonderful CM's. And it's so easy to get around! Go and have fun!

Go!!!! We go once a year as a family, and then I usually take my three kids alone during the summer as that is my husband's company busy time of the year and he does not do well in the heat. We always miss him but have so many great memories going alone with them. We have even talked about over the next few years me taking them one at a time for a long weekend to get some real one on one with them.
Go and have a great time!!! |

The hardest part of the trip would be if it was your son who had to use men's rest rooms. I traveled a few years ago with my autistic son, and I would love to do it again. Airport restrooms presented the most difficult challenge. I took all the carry-ons with me and sent him in alone while I went alone. Try fitting one large adult, and 4 pieces of luggage in a bathroom stall.
![]() We did what ever park he wanted, and what rides he wanted (except Star Tours). It was all about him and he loved it. |

My DD (an only child) is also 8, and I'm dying to take her, just the 2 of us. Everyone keeps horning in on our trips, though! We have toured parks just the 2 of us before, and I can't tell you what a fun and bonding experience it is. She is by far my best touring companion!
As far as being nervous about going as the only adult, it sounds like now is a great time for you to do that. You probably have gotten used to relying on your DH (he must be a great guy) because he's always there. I think taking your DD to a familiar and beloved place by yourself would be a HUGE confidence booster for you and would show you that you can do ANYTHING you put your mind to, all by yourself. And I think everyone should feel that way! Also a very good lesson for your DD. Do yourself and DD a favor and take an amazing adventure with her!!!

You will be fine. Disney is so easy and fun. Have a great time. By the way once you get there your nerves about going alone with your daughter will disappear, I'm sure!

I would in a heartbeat! Last year me and DH and DD2 at the time went for a week. DH got sick and stayed at the hotel one day and me and DD had a blast just the 2 of us. I think we might go for a mini vaca just the 2 of us again soon!

How many opportunities will you ever get to spend quality one-on-one time with your daughter? And at DISNEY no less!!! Go, have a GREAT time. Think of it as a reeeeeeallly extended girls night out. You will have the time of your life, and the shared memories will last a lifetime. I'm sitting here pea green with envy.
