St. Maarten - The DIS Discussion Forums

Hello-
My family (me, DH, DS8, DS5, grandma and grandpa) will be on an Eastern in February. 2nd Dis cruise, been to St. John several times, but never to St. Maarten (or however you spell it). None of the DCL excursions really excite us at this point. I've read quite a bit about Le Galion and DH is a windsurfer so that looks like a good place for the day. My dad would really like to get good snorkeling. We know where we'll take him for that on St. John, but I am wondering if Le Galion beach is any good for snorkeling (it would be nice to keep everyone happy with one beach)? I know there is a reef off shore (which keeps the beach calm and "family friendly", and a couple of websites have advertised it as good for snorkeling, but I'd like to the opinion from as Disers who's been there. Has anyone snorkeled there?

We LOVED La Gallion beach and it was perfect for our kids (5 & 7 at the time). The area that we were in was very sandy but you could go out quite a ways and I am guessing that is where the good snorkeling was. We did not see anyone snorkeling, but saw a LOT of wind surfers. It was fun to watch. Some pics below of the beach itself....
