AKL standard rooms
Ok, here's the scoop. My DW, DS5 and myself are going to the World in January. This is the first time it'll be just the 3 of us as we always take dads, sisters, nephews etc. We enjoy seeing the world through the eyes of someone who hasn't seen it before but I digress...With the 4/3 deal we booked CBR and have paid for it. After doing so I thought I'd price out AKL. With a standard room it's only $400 more for the whole trip and DW has always dreamed about staying there so I thought I'd try to surprise her. Here's the question:
Do any AKL standard rooms have views of the animals or gardens? I just don't want to pay the extra $400 and get basically the same view I could at a value or moderate standard. Before anyone suggests it, The savannah view is out of the budget range for this year |

The standard view rooms have a sort of landscape screened view of the parking lot. You can not see the savannas from these rooms. However, there are lots of public viewing areas to watch the animals on the savannas, so if that works for you, I'd go for it.

I'm fairly certain that standard view rooms are parking lot and walkway views. However, don't let that sway your decision to stay at AKL. It's a great resort reguardless of the room view. Also, it might be worth your while to check out the DVC boards to see if anyone is renting AKV points during the time that you are looking to go. You might be able to rent a savannah view room for roughly around the same price as your package deal.

It's worth the extra money to stay at AKL with no view! The whole resort is an experience; not just what you can see out your window.

For $10 more than the Standard View, you can book a "Pool View" room. This is what we do and you a practically guaranteed a lovely view. We stayed on Zebra Trail which is a great location. As you walk down the hallway to your room, you can look out the viewing windows and see animals off to one side and the pool off to the other side.

I also recommend the pool view upgrade if it's available. That way you know for sure you wont get the parking lot view! BTW, I read here on the dis boards that the main pool at AKL is going to be closed in Jan for rennovations. However, the pool at kidani will be open. Hope it works out for you! AKL is a beautiful resort and IMHO worth the upgrade. For me its the only resort I would go back to without going to WDW!!!

I would ABSOLUTELY stay in a standard view room without any question. This resort is absolutely gorgeous and there are many places to view animals everywhere. The place is so relaxing and peaceful. I cannot imagine a more wonderful place to stay. I am trying other resorts but I really do love going to AKL. It is my favorite.

FYI The pool at AKL is going to be closed January 4-29 for rehab. If you want to use a pool during your stay you will have to walk 1/2 mile to Kidani or take the Downtown Disney bus which will stop at Kidani next.

Back to the original post. I say do AKL. Like others have mentioned there are so many viewing areas that it won't be a problem to just walk down the hall and see the animals. I would upgrade to the pool view if it's available and the pool is open during your time. There's a ton to do at AKL and your family will love it! I say make the switch.

I didn't read all the responses, so someone may have told you think already. The only pool at AKL will be closed in January. You are allowed to use the pool at the Villas, but it is a hike. We are booked at AKL in January, and I am disappointed about the pool, but we probably would not use it much in January anyway.

AKL View
I just returned from our stay at the AKL and it is a great place with or without the view from the room. We had a Savanna view, but there are many other viewing areas to see the animals within the resort itself. The resort has a peaceful feel and it was a welcome "home" feeling at the end of the day.

Thanks to all for the info. I decided to go for it and upgraded ressie from CBR to AKL pool view. Next task for me is to try to keep it hidden from DW as long as I can. I'm thinking I better hide the ME tags when they come in and put them on just before I hand them to the airline check in
