Need help with princess costumes please
I know there are lots of dis members who sew and I need some help. I would like to sew a Belle and Sleeping Beauty dresses for my granddaughters CRT meal in January. I can't seem to find patterns. I would like to sew or buy hand made dresses so they aren't uncomfotable and itchy all day. Can anyone point me to some patterns or handmade sites? thanks

I don't know about Belle and Aurora, but I do remember seeing patterns for Snow White and Cinderella (same pattern with little changes) from Simplicity or Butterick or something when I was at JoAnn awhile ago. I would think they'd have the others, too?

I am doing a Cinderella dress in pink for my daughter. There is also Belle and Snow White with this pattern:
4320 Butterick

Disney has discontinued most of the old "official" Simplicity princess patterns. That Butterick is now the closest out there.
On the Belle dress, your result will be much better if you do the ruching on tapes, regardless of what the pattern suggests. This will also allow you to let the hem down easily to make the dress longer for awhile as the child grows (presuming that she doesn't get much larger around the rib cage.) I prefer to use cotton webbing tape with thin grosgrain ribbon underneath; in a somewhat contrasting color so that I can easily find it to let it down if needed. (I leave about a 10 inch tail at the waist seam on each of the ruching lines for that when ruching a child's dress.) One of the best fabrics to use for comfortable princess dresses is cotton sateen, and the best cheap source is flat bedsheets. I get mine at Tuesday Morning. |

Hey come join us on the Disboutiquers thread! We are on thread #18 and we LOVE to sew!! You will find us in this same catagory on the disboards.
YouCanMakeThis had a lot of patterns and CarlaC, who is also on the Disboards, makes great patterns that can be converted to princess patterns! Check out her blog, the Scientific Seamstress!

I found the old Simplicity on eBay.. I paid probably more than it was worth, but I did find one on there!
