Is there something special on the Oct 23, 2010 Eastern Cruise - The DIS Discussion Forums

I am currently booked on the Oct 23-30, 2010 Eastern Caribbean sailing. I just looked today to compare prices and check availability and cat 8-12 are unavailable and cat 9-5 are GTY only. I thought it was odd for a cruise a year away to be that full.

There's something odd going on because I just pulled it up--it shows ONLY cat 11 available right now.

It's fall break for many schools, and is one of the dates available if you got the free cruise promotion for purchasing DVC points, but neither of those would account for the lack of availability a year ahead.

OK, just checked again--it's now showing 4-11 available for 2 adults.

yea just fyi I have noticed the dcl system is a bit spotty since the new site! Keep checking.

Could also be that the Magic is in Europe for the summer, goes into dry dock and this would be the 2nd sailing back. Those like myself, who like to travel in the fall, this would be the earliest opportunity to travel before the end of the year!

I know what you mean about the availability problem! We just came off the 10/23 Magic Eastern, and I sorta rebooked onboard. Sorta, because I couldn't get my wife onboard! We could only get a cat 9 GTY for 3 people at this time; the only thing with 4 people was a cat 4, which is too much for us. So, my TA is keeping an eye on things, as I am too. Hopefully something will become available, otherwise I'll have to change dates maybe.

Well, I'm 'officially' in! I talked to my TA, and they had a large block booking for this cruise, so he switched me into a room & added my wife! Yay me!

Now, all I have to do is get a job so I can pay for it....

GTY means "guarantee". Basically, you don't get a specific room assignment, but you are guaranteed a room of that category or better.

The GTY stands for guaranty. If you book a cat 9 gty, then they guarantee that you will get at least a cat 9 room. You might go up one or two levels, maybe not, but you won't go down any. Also, you usually don't get your room assignment until around 2 weeks before sailing.

Also, my TA said that the Magic will be in drydock from October 2 thru October 15th; we'll be on the second cruise out of drydock. Maybe they'll make the same changes that they just did to the Wonder?
