What to get dd 10 for XMAS?

I am really struggling with ideas! I try to follow the Victorian Xmas list for my kids:

something she needs
something she wants
something to share
something that is a surprise
something to read

The surprise is the one I having trouble with; my older DD is getting a DSI. As much as I try my youngest always seems to get less! They few things I could think of : paintball gun ( would it be much fun with only 1) and she would be thrilled with a net-book but I don't think a 10 year old needs their own computer. She also wants a cell phone but I again I don't think it is necessary! HELP! I am trying to buy a present every week to I don't have to go into debt for XMAS!

We are thinking of getting DD9 a netbook for Christmas. We can't think of anything else to get her.

Since her older sister is getting a DSi, wouldn't she like one as well?

Another idea would be a hand held flip style video camera - fun for making short videos of her and her friends, then watch them on the computer or tv, or can also share on youtube or photobucket.

I would suggest a digital camera. My 9 year old loves using our old camera to take pictures of all kinds of things and she would love her own camera.

Yeah our DD9 is the tough one, are two youngest are easy, some Dora and Princess stuff and a few outfits. Right now we are thinking some science experiment kit(s) (which she loves to do in school), 1-2 DS games, and any good ideas this thread comes up with!

Other ideas that could work:
- A new bike
- Inline skates
- MP3 Player/Stereo for her room
- Kindle - if she likes to read

How about an ipod touch? My DS 8 has one and he ADORES it. He uses it to death and we have lots of educational games on it and his music, movies etc.

What about an Ipod Shuffle? $49. Both my 10 year old and my 8 year old got them last year and love them. Partner it with an Itunes gift card or suggest that for someone else...or look forward to it for a birthday.

We loaded them with all their favorite WDW songs from our CD's.

Sorry forgot to mention she got the new ipod shuffle for her birthday in April; I am sure she would love a touch but her shuffle is only 6 months old. If this was my older daughter it would be easy she is almost 14 and wants everything! I always feel like my youngest get slided in the gift department!

I second the DSi for the younger one as well. A ten year old is old enough to enjoy it and take care of it and the two can share games.

Hmm. Never thought of that! Her grandparents bought her a replacement DS last Xmas ( she lost her first one) ; I wonder if it worth the $$ to upgrade her's too? She would never be expecting it that is for sure!

The best toy I got for my 9 yo this summer - my old broken cell phone

It no longer works as a phone - only as a video camera. He and his brothers and friends run around making this crazy silly short videos and laughing their butts off. One was him talking in this high squeaky voice "here's the living room floor, the hallway floor, my mom's bedroom, EEEEE it's my mom (with a picture of my feet)" and then them running away. They kept doing it until they had it perfect.

They go back and watch them again and laugh for hours over the ones they shoot.

So anyway, I second the video camera.

My DD9 is getting a digital camera. She has enjoyed using mine and asked for one of her own. I'm looking at Kodak because we already have a photo printer and some of them come with video capability. I can see her having fun w/that as well. Other ideas -

magazine subscription
lessons of some kind
experience gift cert - someplace you don't normally go that she loves
room re-decoration

My soon to be 10 yr old dd got a digital camera for Christmas last year. I see it's been suggested several times...great minds ya know. She has so much fun with it. It's actually a pretty nice one...hot pink, takes great pics, and makes videos. She had a great time a WDW last month snapping away.

So far the only thing she talks about for this year are a netbook and a cell phone.....dh isn't enthusiastic about either of those for this year.

That's what my DD10 is getting for Christmas. She has a Nintendo DS but frankly it has just gathered dust. She's played so many games on my iPhone downloaded from iTunes that getting the Touch seems to be the best gift for her this Christmas. She has an iPod Nano that she's taken very good care of the past 2 years so we're trading that in at the Apple store for 10% off a Touch.

The Flip video idea is also great! My DD has my old digital camera but it eats batteries and doesn't have a direct USB interface to connect to the computer like the Flip does.
