HELP! Can't decide between POFQ and CSR for mother/daughter trip
I'm taking my 8 year old daughter on a surprise get away in February and I booked POFQ because I liked the size. But when I hear the comments between POFQ and CSR, CSR seems to be the favorite because of the rooms, pool, and better transportation. Which do you think would be better considering our circumstances?

I would stay at either! However mom Mom and I just returned from a Mother/Daughter trip at POR and we really enjoyed the boat to Downtown Disney/shopping/Ghiradelli's. So if the boat to DTD is something you think you and your daughter would enjoy I'd stay at POFQ!

I haven't stayed at POFQ, so my opinion is a little biased.
My family has stayed at CSR twice. I would not be a bit worried to stay there on a mother/daughter trip. The bus stops are spread out around the resort, so there is a bus stop in each section, and you are always close. The Ranchos and Cabanas are closest to the main pool. With the age of you daughter, she would probably really like the slide at CSR - a water slide over 140 ft long. POFQ has the dragon slide, which is really cute but very babyish. I have always wanted to stay at POFQ, but my kids do not like the photos of the pool there... maybe some day! In the end, it really comes down to, IMO, which resort theme appeals to you. They are all beautiful in their own way, and staying at any of them should be fantastic. Have a great vacation!

I can weigh in on this one.....
I did a mother / daughter trip with my daughter (also age 8) this past summer, and POFQ. We also had prior trips to CSR and also CBR. POFQ was BY FAR our favorite. Yes, it has some wear on the rooms that you wouldn't get in the recently rehabbed rooms at CSR, but oh my gosh how much easier it is to get around this resort! My daughter also really loved the pool at POFQ (to be fair, she loved the pool at the others also though). I would highly recommend POFQ for your trip. Also, the ease of taking the boat over to downtown disney to just do a little shopping or get some great CS meals... was a fantastic thing for us. |

The rooms are exactly the same size as CSR, so I'm not sure what the difference would be there. They seemed to be pretty typical hotel rooms. As far as transportation, I would have to say that POFQ is better because of the boat to POR and DTD. Because POR is considered a sister resort to POFQ you can take the boat and use any of the facilities(including much larger pool area). We really like taking the boat to DTD in the evenings, kids seemed to think the boat is another "ride" whereas the bus is just "smelly" .Have a great time! |

Just joshing. My family's been to both and liked both fine. And I've read horrible reviews for both on all relevant factors (busses, food, rooms, service...) How can anyone know? I say don't fret it.

We have stayed at both. Both had good bus service and nice pools. I would choose POFQ because it was more family friendly and the food court was better/easier to use with kids.
Good luck!

I've stayed at POFQ, but not CSR. I agree with the others who say that POFQ would be a great choice. For the reasons already mentioned - small size, boat to DTD, bus service, beauty of the resort - as well as others. First of all, POFQ has double sinks in the bath area (CSR only has 1). You can walk over to POR to see their entertainer (Piano Bob) in the River Roost lounge, who puts on a great show for families (especially kids your DD's age). If you're interested, you can take a carriage ride around the grounds of POFQ/POR. CSR is a convention hotel, so it is more likely to be an older crowd. The convention crowd is sometimes (but not always) an issue for people. My kids loved the pool at POFQ! They were younger at the time, so I don't know if that was a factor. But going in February, I'm not sure how much swimming you will be doing!
Have a great mother/daughter trip, and I'm sure you will enjoy whichever you choose! |

We have stayed at the CSR eight times and love it, as did our kids when they traveled with us and several DISers are currently doing reports who were just there with their kids (the age of your daughter and younger) and they loved the resort and have booked the bounceback for the CSR next year. We have visited the POFQ a number of times and think it is a beautiful resort. However, personally, when we were there last month to visit, the pool was extremely crowded...an issue we've never had at the CSR and the POFQ does not have a quiet pool and it has a very small hot tub (the CSR has three quiet pools and the largest hot tub of all of the moderates). We like the food court at both.
Yes, the CSR is a convention resort. As for convention guests, yes, it is a convention resort (as are several of the deluxes), but it tends to keep the buses and the pool emptier. The POFQ would be the only other moderate we would choose if we could not get the CSR and I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I would pick the ones whose theme appeals to you and your daughter the most.

Stayed at CSR by myself before rehab for a conference and did not like it. Room was noisy and very spread out. Wouldn't be bad for me and hubby - but not good on a tired kids feat after a long day in the park. Stayed at POFQ this past December with family (youngest 7) and really loved it. The size and boat to downtown were the best parts that I think sets it apart. Hubby got sick and it was nice that everything was so close to get him saltines, gatorade, etc. and also nice that we could escape to downtown and get away from the germs! My 7 year old loved the pool and chose to leave the park early because he would rather swim at the pool (down the Dragon's Slide) than stay and go on more rides.

My daughter and I have done both. That being said, she's 30 not 8. We loved the POFQ, but found it better suited for famlies with small children. It's very contained, so walking to your room, the bus stop, or the food court is short trip no matter where your room is. The pool also seems to be themed for younger children and the slide much smaller than other resorts. So this visit I would say POFQ.
Now when she is older and you continue your mother & daughter trips...CSR is wonderful. The pool, food court, Maya Grill, Rix's Lounge, the large hot tub, the Spa...great for a "big" girls trip at half the cost of a deluxe. Where ever you decide to stay...have a wonderful trip! |

We have stayed at both also. Currently my 13 y/o daughter and I are planning our next mom/daughter trip. I asked her to pick which resort she wanted to stay at. Out of all the resorts, she chose POFQ.

I've stayed at both and in fact just got back from CSR Oct 4th and from POFQ this past May. I enjoyed both resorts, but would choose POFQ for your trip. It's the smallest resort on property so no room is very far from the bus stop or main building, plus it has the boat to DTD.

may I aska question? sorry OP if i am hijacking your thread. I apologize.
I booked a solo trip for me for POFQ . i did visit from POR. my question is , in the lounge area , can you get coffee or tea? or ice tea or anything soft to sip? I no longer partake, but want to enjoy the atmostphere. this resort seemed so friendly when i visited and checked it out. the layout is perfect for me. sorry again for asking a stupid question.

I gave my DD7 her pick of moderates for her 8th birthday trip, and she chose CSR or CBR. CSR for the pool, CBR for the Nemo rooms. I was pushing for POFQ for the boat to DTD but she nixed it.
However, I got a pin code and upgraded her to Animal Kingdom Lodge without her knowing
