Toy Story Early Morning Line Issue

Here's the scenario. We were at DHS for rope drop last Thurs. and our strategy for Toy Story was to hit the FP line first then get in line to ride, however long the line was. The FP distribution line wasn't exactly short, but I got the tix and joined my wife who was standing in the walkway that goes through that area. By this time the line extended away from the entrance and was looping back towards the FP machine area. People were still streaming to the stand-by line and others were just passing through to other attractions. As I joined my wife there was a break of about 30 yards between the last group to pass through and the hoard still approaching from then rope drop area. There was no way to discern the intentions of the approaching crowd, there was no 'line' in any sense of the word where we met up, so we got behind the last person who was clearly waiting to enter. Shortly others fell in behind us, at which time wifey whispered to me, 'That guy back there is glaring at us, did we cut the line?' I said to her, 'There was no line, and let him glare'.

At any rate, I think this ride suffers from some bad planning. The ride entrance should be placed first as approached from the park entrance with the FP machines beyond that. Furthermore, at what point is a line not a line? How close does one have to be the the end of a line before being considered 'in the line'? I'm a golfer and I have a good handle on distance and the 'glare man' was a good 30 yards away from where we were and the obvious end of the line was a little farther down from us. Did we breach some form of etiquette?

I don't think you did anything wrong.

Before you enter the official queuing area (these are obvious I think - chains, railings, and such), I think the line ends where people have stopped moving. People still walking toward that stopped group are not in line yet. Otherwise, you might as well head back out to the entrance as I'm sure there's a stream of people all heading toward TSM.

So true! I noticed this mess of a "line" earlier this month.
It was stressful and confusing trying to determine who was in line or who was just standing around. Or determining who is with who, so you don't step in front of someone from their group. I really wish this que was managed better at rope drop.
For now it is just go with the flow of traffic and hope you don't offend someone by stepping in front of them.

Our family also witnessed this during our trip 2 weeks ago. There is such a large huddle of people around that area it's hard to tell who is going where, so I see no foul.
Proper etiquette from 30 yards out is probably a 60 degree loft wedge.

If I'd have had my 60 degree that morning Glare Man would have been on the green

PSUGUY,

Did you get a chance to get a round in while you were @ WDW ?

If so, Which Course and how was it?

Just wondering !

No, it's bad enough paying for each piece of luggage flying down let alone adding the clubs. We do 10 days in Myrtle Beach every July and get our fill then, we stick to Disney stuff we can't get just anywhere when we're at WDW.

In my opinion, it is not a case of bad line-planning by Disney.

First, they have a really long interior queue.
So, maybe they should have a better queue outside? Well, that wouldn't change things.
Even if they had more marked off line space outside, you would still run into the same problem at some point. Eventually, there is an "ENTRANCE" to the queue and no matter where that is....first thing in the morning, a WHOLE BUNCH of people are heading toward it at the same time, creating a funnel effect. How to figure out where the line starts/ends/whatnot is tough. Usually, early on, Disney has a couple CM's to try and help keep the line forming and moving properly. Mistakes will still happen (especially if people have intent to cheat/cut). Disney could put more CM's out to monitor, but at some point it gets silly.

So, I definitely understand it is crazy, but during those first 15-30 minutes each day, it is just something that happens.

Disney needs to build another similarly appealing new family ride on the other side of Studios....that way the early crowd would have to split up some more.

Just noticed this.....you actually have the best answer

As soon as you walk through the turnstiles, you have to choose. Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, or other.

If Toy Story Mania, you get directed toward a narrow line that will work its way from the front of the park all the way back to Pixar Place. Hahahaha!!
