Halloween Dilemma

What would you do? Our town has trick or treating from 4 to 8 pm this year. Last year, we only got 6 kids. As we have only lived here a year and a 1/2, I'm not sure what it would be like on a Saturday.

We just got invited to a halloween party that day from 3:30 to 5:30 at our friend's house about 45 minutes away. I think my 20 month old DS would love the party and we would love to go to. However, we wouldn't get home until 7:15 pm or so, thus missing the trick or treating time.

I guess I'm concerned because in our old town, we were egged even though we handed out candy to 200+ kids the last time halloween was on a saturday.

So, would you stay home or go to the party?

I'd go to the party, too. But wouldn't you be home by 6:15, not 7:15, if the party ends at 5:30 and is 45 minutes away?

That still leaves you nearly two hours to participate in trick or treating, too. If you're worried about being egged if you're not home, I would think that would be more likely to happen later, when the older hoodlums are out, rather than 4-6, when it's still daylight outside, and it's mostly toddlers out with their parents (at least, that's how it is in our area, but we don't set times for ToTing).

your house was egged last year? That's nice.

You should go to the party. Go out and have fun don't worry about it.

Edit: Sorry I read that wrong, you were egged in your old town. I still say go to the party.

If we aren't here, we will leave treats out for the honor system.

You can also leave treats with a neighbor (we have visited some houses that do that) to distribute and just leave a sign on your door.

I would not miss out on the party out of fear of vandalism.

If you got 6 kids on a friday then i doubt you'll get much more on a Sat. skip it and go to the party. We don't have a whole of traffic here for trick or treating either, so I think we'll skip again this yr. just not worth it to buy the candy.

Is it normal for towns to designate trick or treating times? I have never heard of that. We can trick or treat all day if we want.

Anyway, I think Halloween parties are much more fun. I would def. do the party.

Go to the party and enjoy yourselves. I doubt you will get more kids than you did last year.

The only time we have gotten kids at our house was the year we decorated the yard. One year we had 3 kids. Since then we just keep the light off and don't go through the hassle of having candy left over that we HAVE to eat.

this is the first town I've lived in with designated times. I kind of like it. Last year, I didn't know about it and kept the lights on until 9 pm. They also have the fire department go all around town in designated stops with free cider and donuts to give out.

Attend the party. It's not worth it to stay home all night and hand out treats to 5-10 kids.

I live in a condo building and although we have a few kids, there are not many. One year I stayed home all evening with a large dish of candy and there were NO trick-or-treaters that came around. Since then, its become my Halloween ritual to go to my aunt's house, relax and watch the kids come back with their Halloween treats.
