Can somebody please explain the child-swap?

This is our first time going with toddlers. How does the Child Swap work for the bigger rides? Does the whole group stand in line together and then pass the little kids off to each other? I can't imagine how that will work having the kids stand in line and then telling them they can't ride.

Thanks for your help!

When we used child swap in August whoever had the baby waited and the other 3 (1 child 2 adults) went on the ride. The CM who gave the rider swap ticket always requested to see the baby so whoever waited with the baby would go with the group over to the CM then the riders go through the regular line once they have done on the ride we switched who had the baby and could use the fast pass lane. I hope this makes sense. It worked really well though we enjoyed the rider swap very much and my older son got to go 2 times in a row which made him really happy!

Another thing you should know about child swap is that your child that IS able to ride, can go back on with you using child swap. SO like for Thunder Mountain, we all walked up to the fast pass line and asked for a child swap ticket, then my 1 year old and I went to walk & wait (actually there is a little play place right near there for toddlers) then when my husband and daughter who was 5, were done, her and i went to the fastpass line and did the child swap....

One other thing I didn't see mentioned was that the child swap pass is good for the person with the ticket and 2 others for a total of 3 so that the person waiting if your with a group doesn't have to wait with all the kids alone. I perferred to be the waiter so I didn't have to stand in line for more than 5 mins.

As others have stated:
- Everyone approaches the CM and asks for a Rider Switch Pass. (They have to see the too-little-child before giving you the pass.)
- Parent 1 waits with little one while Parent 2 rides with other kid(s). You can wait right by the exit, get a snack, or do another attraction.
- When they are done (or any time later that day), Parent 1 and up to two other people use the rider switch pass to ride.

Rider switch can also be used with Fast Pass to further minimize waiting. (The first group uses the fast passes, the second uses the rider switch pass. That way no one waits in the standby line.)

*Rider Switch for Star Tours does not work like all the rest. For that one, the whole family must get in line and then swap the baby when boarding the ride. Fortunately the line was less than 5 mins when we were there.

Here's a good article that explains the Rider Switch Pass. It also includes a photo of the Rider Switch Pass.
