Question for those who have performed in AIE

I think I read somewhere on here that they give you a special Fastpass card afterward? Is this true?

I'd like to audition, but I think seeing the park is more important to me and I don't want miss out on everything because I was doing AIE!

Thanks!

They didn't give my son a Fastpass when he performed in March. They did give him a special PHOTOpass card with pix taken during rehearsal and performance.

Our friend didn't get a FP either. I think it took about an hour for the audition, then he was free to leave. Of course, it depends if you get picked for the final round. Then they tell you which show you will be in. You can take one "super fan" with you for the audition, but when you go back for the show, they let all your friends in first. He had to go back a little while before the show for hair and make-up . He didn't win at his show, but it was a lot of fun. They did give him card to wear around his neck that said, "Vote for me", but it didn't get him on rides any quicker.

They give you fastpasses if you are an alternate but do not sing in one of the shows. They will choose a couple alternates just in case someone doesn't show up. If you sing, great! If not, they give you fastpasses and treat you like VIP for the show. It's pretty cool actually!

That seems messed up....they give the alternates FP's but not the people who actually perform?

Thanks for the answers everyone, but I think will save auditioning for AIE for another trip!

It made sense to me. As an alternate I wasn't garunteed a spot in the show. But I still had to show up at the same time as the performers that were given a sure spot and wait until they made sure they were all there. They 'wasted' about an hour of my time (their words not mine) so because I was willing to show up without knowing whether or not I'd perform, they gave me fastpasses.

If I had performed I wouldn't have gotten the fastpasses because I would have achieved my original goal-singing in a show. You audition, you're willing to give up that time. If you make it to the final show you've given up a lot of park time, but that's the deal.

Ah ok I see the reasoning now!

I guess for most people the shot at the Dream ticket is their trade-in for missing attractions in the park.

Yeah-pretty much. I was even told by a CM that if I did make it to the final show, that they would find a new ADR for me somewhere. I didn't-obviously, but they were ready to help!

My husband auditioned...

and, he made it to the second round (not in the show). He received a special "family" fast pass to the ride of his choice (we chose TSM, of course!). I think he may have received it because we were first in the turnstiles that morning, and we (the whole family) got pulled out of line for the audition process. By the time we were released, the line to get fast passes was enormous. Anyway, we did get one of the special little yellow passes.

Nope, no fastpasses for us either. My youngest dd auditioned in April, no FP was given. She made it to the stage. In August, eldest dd made it to the stage, youngest didn't, and again, no FPs were given.

How does it work? Do you get to pick your songs? Do you have to be within AI's age limit of 28? I know you do to continue, but what about making it to the stage?

Short course -- Disney has a list of available songs. You sing anything you want a cappella for the first round. If they like you, you get the list (which you can find online to choose a couple and practice at home) and an Ipod so you can select two or three. You sing one or two of those for the producers, who select one for you if you go on. If you get picked to go on stage, you do an hour ahead with hair and make-up, a singing coach and stage rehearsal. You perform on stage. If you win that, you get to come back for the evening finale. You do not have to meet AI's own age requirements just to perform -- you have to be a minimum of 14, but there's no max age. If you win the finale, you get a "dream ticket" for front of the line for real AI auditions. Then you do have to meet their age limits, but if you don't, or don't want to try out for AI, you can give that ticket to someone else. My son did this in March and had a great time -- he thought the vocal coaching alone was worth all the time he spent.

Not to confuse the issue...but when we went in Sept, we did get a FP to use on any attraction.

My friend was chosen to perform in the 2:00 show.

The lines were so short we did not use it and gave it away later. It did not even "expire" until later in the week. It had an expiration date on it.

Here is a picture of it.
