HHI with a 5.5 yo and 18 month old in October??

Trying to get all of our ducks in a row for our next couple of trips and having some planning issues....we had originally planned to do WDW next year and HHI in 2011 with DD who would be 5.5 then and yet to be born baby would be 18 months. My thinking was WDW with an 18 month old seems like a pain in the butt so let's try something else....BUT we just got off a cruise on the Magic and DH was talking to someone at the DVC member gathering who said HHI was really boring if you don't golf - which we don't, so is it a good or a bad idea?
DH hates the beach and probably will never set foot on it. I like it and will take the kids for walks and such to look for shells (thinking too cold to swim) and build sandcastles, but that gets old after a while too. Is there enough to do to keep us all occupied?
I get that it will be a more relaxed vacation, but I'd still like to have something to do/somewhere to go almost every day if not every day. We'd probably be there 6 days/5 nights. It is a 10 hour drive vs a 2 hour flight to WDW and that affects things too.
I need to figure this out soon because our 2011 trip plans will affect our 2010 trip plans do to AP issues.
Thanks!

I'll be interested in this too. I'm getting ready to book HHI this week for May. My DS will be 10 months old when we go and I agree WDW seems like too much work. So, instead of flying to WDW, we're going to switch things up and drive to HHI instead. This way here we avoid taking the little guy on a plane for a little while longer and don't have to rush to make a flight.

I'm not expecting to do too much while we're there, and my DH doesn't love the beach, but I'm thinking maybe they'll be bikes to rent or we can hit the pool more often than the beach.

HHI is far from boring!!! I can't believe someone would dare say that! We don't golf at all, and we didn't find it boring. In fact, we loved it so much we just added on points there. Of course, my boys are 11 and 13, but if anything they have more for little ones to do than teenagers. There are all kinds of programs for the kids to do each day. It's a very nature-oriented resort. It is not right on the beach; the beach is about a mile away. (There is a shuttle that can take you if you don't want to drive.) IThe resort is on a marsh which is beautiful!!! My boys love to fish, so they ended up spending most of their time fishing from the pier. You can rent poles there if you think they would like that. There is a great pool and slide at the resort, and another pool at the beach. And like I said lots of activities for the kids. I just can't remember all of them because my kids are older. There is an HHI Adoration Thread on this forum that will have some useful information for you. Good luck in your decision!
