2-for-1 drinks all day, every day?

I know most of the chains in Jacksonville (Chilis, Applebees, TGI) have 2-for-1 drinks all day, every day, as did a Chili's in Orlando. And I mean all day, from open to close. Is this just a Florida thing?

I thought maybe all the locations do it, but I went to all of these places up north (Chicago, NYC, Nebraska, NC) and none of them offered it, just some drink specials during happy hour.

When I lived in Kansas the law was that establishments couldn't have "Happy Hour" 2 for 1 deals. If they wanted to offer 2 for 1, it had to be all day.

I have never seen it where I live. They will have discount drinks, but I have never seen 2 for 1 drink specials.

How much are the drinks costing? How does this compare with previous pricing?

What is the quantity of the pour for a mixed drink? How does this compare with the previous pour size?

Our state (NC) does not allow 2 for 1 either.

Could this promo be designed to bring in vacationers? I realize not everyone in FL is a tourist - perhaps it is in response to competition - if one other area chain restaurant began the promo - perhaps the others had to follow suit to compete for customers?

Here in NH - I haven't heard of the promo at our area chains. We have Chili's, TGIFridays, Applebees, etc.

Some states are much more lax than others.

When I moved here, I discovered FL's wonderful happy hour. I moved from IL and where happy hour (set time for discounted drinks) was illegal. There, you could have drink specials but it had to last all day.

The only state better is Nevada - I'll never forget one casino's buy one drink, get two free! That was a fun trip.

It all comes down to state and local laws.

When I lived in Illinois, there were never any happy hour specials. It was against the law. Here in Florida it's legal, so it's up to each individual restaurant. Places like Chili's and Applebee's offer 2 for 1 drinks all day and others seem to use the 2 hour, 5-7 dinner time.
