Question NYC Question(Our Anniversary)...

Hey everyone!

Just a quick question--
my boyfriend and I are celebrating our 3 year anniversary 10/22 & were going to NYC on 10/25 due to us both working our annivesray! blah!

We have been to NYC *MANY* times and are very familiar with the city and been to many places/done many things. We live in PA so we drive in

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for something "special" to do...now the catch here is that I just started my wonderful new job after being laid off 2months So money is TIGHT TIGHT.. so I want to do something romantic and nice.. but affordable...

(weather forecast as of right now is showers high of 60degrees for 10/25)
since its October and its going to be late October, weather can be weird--cold/rainy/even snow! I was looking into the "duck tour" but that might be a bad idea because of weather..
same thing for the horse/carriage ride hmm..

I then looked into a Disney Broadway--I wanted to do Little Mermaid but that isn't coming back until 2010!!! I then looked at Lion King--HECK no for the prices unfortutately
then.. I looked into Mary Poppins.. I can definitley afford that thanks to the DisBoards I found codes for ticket prices! I can get a ticket as low as $36.00
-also if you have seen Mary Poppins let me know and where you sat and where the good seats/bad seats are in the New Amsterdam Theater in NYC.
-negative thing about Mary Poppins--the bad reviews I've been reading and not being anything like the movie or "Disney-Ish"

Other than that, we always make a visit to the World Of Disney.. which is sadly closing and we were just in NYC about 4 weeks ago and it was a big dissapointment in that store, they didn't have anything good!
We've also done the whole Empire State Building .. heck I could do that again that was pretty neat..

Any suggestions/ideas.. etc. would be great!!! We are thinking of eating at the "City Crab" on Park Ave. -- we ate there on our 1 year anniversary and been there many times! If not because of money--we'll be eating at John's Pizza in Times Square which is in an "old church"...
I do have a question where/what is the name of the restaurant in Times Square that "rotates" I read somewhere on DisBoards about that..

THANKS!!!

Seeing as the weather is constantly changing, i wouldn't count on the 60 degree weather. I would try to plan something in doors as it may rain.

Little Mermaid closed and will not be coming back in 2010. They are putting another show into that theater come Spring. Lion King is a good show but I don't think it's as good as everyone says. I LOVED Mary Poppins. It is based more on the original book rather than the movie but it still had some Disney magic for me.

The WOD store is closing but I believe it is moving to another location as the lease was up on the space.

There are tons of resturants in the area that have GREAT food for not a lot. I love Chai or Pammy's Thai. Both are Thai resturants and offer wonderful Thai dishes for reasonable prices. I try to eat off of the beaten path to get non touristy type food in the city. There is also Lidia's italian returant on resurant row. can't recall what it is called but really enjoyed it.

As for things to do-does it have to be Disney related? there are a ton of shows around that are great and you can get inexpensive tiks. Either try to TKTS booth or look on Broadwaybox.com for discount codes. Avenue Q recently moved to the new stages theater from it's broadway location and ti think the smaller venue will suit it much better.

I also love Union Square and am a big fan of the open air market or just walking around.

don't think i was much help but hvae a great time.

I think that you need to get tickets almost a year in advance. As for broadway, my mom took dd8 to see Mary Poppins, and wasn't that impressed. Some shows, such as Wicked and Jersey Boys, are worth the pricetag!

Thank you
Yes! Thats exactly why I'm not going to do the Mary Poppins Broadway afterall..I did find GOOD tickets priced at a good price I can afford, but after reviewing some you tube videos and reviews of the show, I'm highly dissappointed from what I saw/read/heard. Being a Disney Broadway I expect more, to be more DISNEY-like and its not .. So I will definitley cross that off my list!

Maybe get dessert at Cafe Lalo. It's on the upper west side and is really well known for desserts - we went last night and they have at least 30 varieties of pies, 20 varieties of cheesecakes, creme brulee in a cute heart shape, milkshakes, cocktails, fondue for 2 ($20 for 2 people), etc.

funny, I'll be in NYC the same weekend celebrating my 8th wedding anniversary...we'll be meeting friends for dinner and just winging it. We love just walking around -- not a plan to be had although I would like to bsee the Bodies exhibition at the Seaport...

You can get last minute orchestra seats to Wicked for $25 at the door. Sorry, it's not Disney, but it's cheap!

Also, you stated you did the Empire SB - did you do it at night? Just did it last month and it was breathtaking! How about trying to get standby tickets at one of the talk shows (The View, Regis and Kelly)?

Broadwaybox.com has great ticket deals,
I recommend Mama Mia, its high energy
and extremely entertaining! Jersey Boys
is excellent but no discounts other then
waiting in the standing room only line.
I think the most romantic would be the
carriage ride, no idea about cost though,
sorry!
Little Mermaid returning to Broadway
in 2010??? Hadn't heard that, I hope its
true!!
Have a wonderful time in the Big Apple!
