best friends mom is dying
My best friend from junior high just emailed me. We havent spoken in a very long time, life just got too busy and we fell out of touch. She just told me
that her mother is in the process of dying. It's an odd and terrible feeling to remember her mom from years ago, and now to hear that she is doing so badly. 30 years is a huge chunk of time. In the blink of an eye so much can fly past you. I'm probably the age her mom was back then. What will the next 30 years bring? It scares me a little to think of how fast that will go by. I'm sorry for what is ahead for my friend. |

I am sorry for your friend and her family and think its great she got in touch with you. Usually when I talk with any of my friends I have known since childhood, we will end up talking about old times and funny things our moms did and realize that they were around the age we are now. Its a weird but somehow comforting thought. And yes, time goes so fast.
Its funny, the night my mom died the first person I wanted to call was a friend of mine I had known all through elementary to high school. We had lost touch after high school, but got reaquainted as adults, then sort of drifted apart . We just both got busy but we still cared about each other and would always say "why do we do this" when we'd go months and months without talking. Anyway, the night my mom died, I just had to talk to her. My mom had always loved her and she had always loved my mom. I needed to talk to somebody who had known my mom for a very long time, who knew my mom as a young, healthy person and I guess could grasp what I had just lost. In some instances, you just need to talk or see someone you have a history with. She cried with me that night and came over the next day and brought me a coconut cream pie because she knew that was my mom's most favorite dessert. Nobody but her would have thought of that. I know you'll be a good friend to her and I'll say a prayer for your friend and her mom.

The weekend Mom died I had my oldest friend on the phone off and on all weekend. We talk several times a year but sometimes a year or more goes by without us seeing each other. When it comes right down to it, old friends are the best. As far as wondering what is to come - Carpe Diem.
