What is going on the 2nd weekend in Dec? - The DIS Discussion Forums

The only thing I was able to get reserved a while back was Polynesian with free dining and 1 day ticket each for dd and I for $1360. I have been trying back for room only. Hoping to get Florida resident or passholder rates. There are no rooms left at all in the hotel, even at rack rate. There are only a few other rooms left at other deluxes for Dec 10-13, but they are all things like concierge or 2 bedroom or theme park views so will cost me more than my free dining will.

I don't need anymore tickets as I have 4 of the one day tickets sitting here right now from prior trips. Also my dd and I don't eat that much. I added up an approximate amount from menus from dining reservations I have in place. With TIW it likely wouldn't be more than $250 for us. I'm usually happy with an appetizer and drink. She does get a full meal.

So why are there no rooms? I know the previous weekend is Pop Warner. I'm worried. We go this time every year for lower crowds.

As you said free dining is going on (pins were sent out as well as public codes) and I believe that the buy 4 get 3 free is going on during this time as well. Also the disboards podcast is sponsoring an event at MGM on the 12th and have other things going on that weekend. Not sure how many of those people are staying at the poly though. But free dining is definately a big draw. And if I am correct Pop Warner wraps up that weekend but they do not stay at the Poly usually.

There are NO rooms available because of the deals that Disney is offering.It doesn't neccessarily mean the crowds are going to be worse, simply that people that usually stay offsite are staying onsite because of the discounts

I think this is Pop Warner week which is very busy is my understanding from reading on this board....

I can confirm. 4/3 deal begins on 12/10. It is a great value at deluxe resorts, which would help explain the Poly being booked.
