the ship backs into port, so the starboard (right) side has the better view of CC while in port

The ship usually backs into CC but has been known to pull in forward sometimes.

Right now they are working on expanding the dock so there is some construction equipment on the dockside and by the tram stop. We had that view last month and it didn't bother me at all. In the morning we watched them unloading supplies. When we came back to the ship around 4:00 we were watching all the activity on the dock and watching all the workers board their boat and head back to Abaco island.

Here are some pics.

View toward the island.

This is as we are backing into CC.

Watching staff start to unload provisions at CC.

These two are of some of the machinery used for work on the dock

This is near the first tram stop

CM's waving goodbye to us!

And the new slide, that is not yet open.

Another view of the slide from the family beach

Construction workers leaving on their boat back to Abaco.

Personally we enjoy the Port view of the dock area. Watching them unload the ship, set up the gangplank area, and then declare that guests may now leave the ship. Always something to see.

We have been on 2 cruises in the same stateroom and once faced the dock and the other the island.

While it is most common for the captain to back the ship in (causing the starboard side to face the island), they sometimes take it in front first.

Bottom line; this is a really small issue--do you want to see the construction from the dock or the island view? Or do you want to be ON the island rather than watching from your window or balcony?

In all fairness, on our first trip my 7 year old woke me up telling me that I had to get up to see the most beautiful thing in the world. We were PORT side, and the captain had taken us in bow first.

Word from the CM's on our cruise was that it would be open next summer.

I had the same experience of being bow in on our cruise, giving my port side veranda a great view of the island.

And no disrespect intended, but the balcony is a great place to have a room service breakfast before debarking. It's also a nice place to sit and enjoy one last view as the rest of the family is showering and relaxing after a hard day of playing on the island.

I enjoyed the view of the ship from my stateroom. Here's one of the flying dutchman:

It is my understanding that they normally only pull straight into dock when the ship is having photos taken at Castaway Cay for media release. Other than that it will always reverse.
