Hotel room rubbish
My family and i are travelling to Disneyland from Australia and we leave in 3 days!!!
It is our first overseas trip and my 2.5 year old daughters first trip. My daughter is an absolute Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fan and thats probably the main reason we are going when she is so young. We probably will try and get back again but probably won't be for at least 5 years. I plan on buying her lots of Mickey stuff as getting anything Mickey here is very rare. So my question is if we buy toys, souveniers etc can we leave all the excess packaging in the hotel room and leave a more generous tip for them to dispose of it or is this frowned upon? We just want to be able to fit as much as we can in our luggage since we can't pop back for more stuff to easily I was thinking of taking a few garbage bags so its all tidy but wasn't sure. I would get rid of it myself but i'm not sure where... Any help would be appreciated, i did a few searches but nothing came up. Probably a dumb question but i just thought i'd ask.. |

nah its not a dumb question at all...actually I do it all the time and have never thought twice about it...If I was buying alot then maybe putting the excess bags in a trash bag might be nice but as long as you dont leave it thrown on the floor or something then I wouldnt even worry about it...thats what they do...Im sure there are alot worse things theyve seen and had to deal with...your fine

We purchased heaps of stuff that we needed to leave the packaging behind for. What we did was compact it down as much as possible, separated cardboards, etc, like we need to do with our normal council service.
What you could do as well is if you're purchasing as you go break it up over a number of days. Our last day was the worst though, and there was a lot of rubbish. We were very generous with our tip.

i'm sure the hotel has a large dumpster or something for trash, and if you mention it to management, they'll probably appreciate the gesture and offer to help, or do it for you. bringing some trash bags is a really good idea!
DH and i have 4 kids and we always work very hard not to leave a hotel room messy. all our trash is in wastebaskets, used towels are left in the tub, etc. many years ago we traveled with a family who absolutely trashed all their hotel rooms, and i vowed never to do the same, LOL!!! |

You, my friend, are an angel! What you're asking shows a wonderful level of consideration for housekeeping. Kudos to you!
How much rubbish do you think you'll generate? It may accumulate daily. What DH and I do is use our shopping bags as extra trash bags and get them ready for housekeeping each morning. If you think you'll have a whopper of a trash day then it wouldn't hurt to bring a kitchen bag with you just in case. ![]() Sure, leave a few extra dollars. Extra bags may mean an extra trip to the dumpster so more is a nice gesture. Have fun!!!

Do not forget to take some green bags for shopping as well as this will help you cut down on plastic bags, we got a few plastic bags as souvenirs because every purchase you make will go into a plastic bag and you will end up with so many and you will be amazed at how much empty wrappers you have. We did the same we took some garbage bags with us and recycled as much as possible, I suppose us Australians have been taught to recycle. Funny story for you we went to the Character Warehouse and bought alot of things for family when we went to the checkout the lady serving us gave us a strange look when we said no plastic bags please we have our own carry bags she said oh you must be from Australia I had a couple like you here last week and they had there own bags. Be prepared for strange looks when you refuse a plastic bags and good on you for being considerate it would be nice if others would think the same but most of all enjoy your trip.

There will usually be a large garbage can of some kind near the entrance to your hotel building. We stay at HoJo and if we have pizza boxes or any extra packaging that won't fit well in the hotel room garbage - we take it to the larger can right by the entrance and put it there. Helps us feel better and makes a little less work for the housekeepers.

They are planning on getting new ones at Little Miss Matched, or somewhere similar. I don't think there will be any upset kids if the old ones only make it as far as the trash.Last time we went, we just used some of our excess shopping bags for trash. We tied them up and left them with the rubbish bin so it was obvious they were to go. Have fun - we have 11 days to go and are all getting excited here too. |

![]() Many hotels keep their dumpsters in places that are inaccessible to guests, so you ay not be able to dump the bags for them. Have you thought about requesting the store to remove the packaging and dispose of it for you? Most will do so as a service with a smile. They thoroughly understand that you have a long, did I say LOOOONG?, way to travel with very limited space. Have fun in DL! The first time for a wee one is always precious.

Thanks, i might actually ask to remove the packaging if it is something large as that would make it easier.
We fly out of Sydney on Sunday on the new airbus so very exciting. I am going to throw out our toiletries and stuff when we leave as i bought most of it specifically for the trip so that is not a problem for me ![]() Hey i would leave my mum behind if it would create more space
