Walking down the aisle without your dad -even though he'll be at the wedding????
As I'm not super close with my dad i'm a little unsure whether I want to walk down the aisle with him. has anyone done it on their own even if your dad was there? was it awkward?

I'm not walking down the aisle with my dad at my upcoming wedding, but it's for different reasons. This is my 2nd wedding and my dad walked with me at my first one. This time I thought it would be nice to have my son walk with me. My dad will be included in other ways, though. He'll do a reading during the ceremony and say the blessing at the dinner reception.

I need to figure this out as well. Both my Dad and Stepdad will be attending. Regardless of who I choose, or both, someone will feel their toes are being stepped on. I had considered walking down the isle with my Grandfather, but he will not be able to attended due to health issues. I too am curious as to what past brides have done.

My dad will be at my wedding, and we are pretty close, but he will not be walking me down the aisle. I have always been independent, so I guess I just want to feel that way on my wedding as well.

I would rather walk on my own, but am letting my Dad walk me as he would be realy upset if I said I didn't want him to. My Step-Dad is also attending but would not expect to walk me down the aisle.

its strange because i have lived with my stepdad with my mum since i was a little girl- he has been more in my life than my dad, but i still wouldnt want him to walk me down the aisle, i want my dad- even though im not close with him.... its tough. I dont think my stepdad with be bothered at all- even though he is the one who has seen me grow up day by day and my dad has just been there for days out and for weekend visits?
i dont even know how i would feel walking by myself... i havent considered it..?

I'm close with my dad, but the attention would bother him so I'm going to walk alone. Which also feels better for me as well. I'm a grown woman I don't need to be given away.
My dad will walk in before if he wants, but he kind of is talking right now about just being seated with the other guests. If he does decide he wants to be in the procession I'm going to find him one of his favorite theme songs to make him feel a bit more comfortable.

A friend of mine had both her stepdad and dad attend the wedding so she chose to have her mom walk her down aisle. She was closer to her mom anyway. That's another option.

Ultimately, don't do anything you're not comfortable doing...if you don't see your dad walking you down, or if you'd rather have someone else do it, then forget about tradition and do what makes you happy

I am also considering getting my mum to walk me down the aisle, as she is the one who i am most close to. My dad lives in Ireland so i only see him about twice a year.
Not too sure how my dad will feel about it though and unsure on how to mention it to him without him been upset. Rachel x |
