Philadelphia Phillies Fans.......

I'm not much of a baseball fan. I enjoy going to Phillies games, but mostly for the experience of going to a game. My husband is pretty much of the same mind-set. We happen to; however, live in a city with some of the most passionate sports fans in the country.

When no one was (seriously) hurt or injured during 'post-win' street celebrations after the Phillies won the World Series last year, I was pretty disappointed that I was more or less scared to death of the thought of leaving my house, or, more importantly, to the end of my block (which happens to be a BIG, BIG 'party' intersection). I just sat at my window and listened to the shouting, honking horns, aaaaaaaaaaaand very many helicopters hovering close to my roof, while my cats hid under the couch, probably thinking they were experiencing the apocalypse. I watched a lot of it on TV and was upset that I probably missed out on a very interesting (and different) experience.

So when they won last night's game, my husband and I decided to take part in the insanity and went outside with my camera.

To try and keep the crowds out of the streets, the police ran Caution tape down the sidewalks and the lightposts had been greased (yep...)

but eventually....they gave up

and it seemed like everyone in the neighborhood made an effort to go out, no matter what their condition:

here's a gorilla with a drum:

they showed off their awesome parenting skills:

and, finally
these complete strangers who followed me around THROUGH the crowds, thinking that I worked for the news, begging me to take their picture because they REALLY wanted to be on the news:

I love this city.
I don't necessarily love baseball, though.
but I love people.

They were all so happy!

It was an awesome game! We're not huge Phillies phans, but even we were yelling at the TV. I just hope they beat the Dodgers.

And, I'm glad no one got hurt this time... We don't have a good record for celebrating around here.

I grew up 3 blocks from that intersection as did my DH. I remember many a celebration there. The year the Flyers won the Stanley Cup they had streakers on top of the building at the corner. I will agree the crowds seem a little rougher now but if we win again I plan to be at my parents' house to relive some old memories. At least they haven't set the 66 on fire lately. They did that both times the Flyers won. Lets go PHILLIES!

That looks fun! We are all Phillies fans, but nothing exciting goes on in Jersey when we win. The sad thing is, after the Rockies scored 2 runs in the 8th...I WENT TO BED!! At least they won!

Although I grew up in Northern New Jersey, and my family were Yankee fans, my brother got married and moved to South Jersey when I was still very young. They pretty much became Phillies fans and my very first baseball game was a Phillies game!
It was such an awesome experience for me!
Go Phillies!

I love Philly fans passion. We get a bad rap.

I went to the World Series Parade last year and it was awesome.

Half the time the people who cause the trouble arent Philly sports fans, but people who head out to cause problems. They use the crowd as an excuse.

Thanks for thinking of us and sharing the pics. It's neat seeing everything from that angle and not just through the news helicopters.

I am still LMAO over the people who wanted to be on the news!!! That is so funny. Did you interview them? You could have had so much fun with that!

hhaha I probably should have, but I didn't.

I still can't imagine why they thought I was from the news with a still camera....if it was a video camera, then, yeah, I can see that.

Well, I guess we're all not bright bulbs, eh?

Players contact

Hey everyone,
We live here in Canada, and my son is a huge Matt Stairs fan...he is a young baseball fan, and so doesn't understand why Matt isn't in the every day lineup...anyhow, I wanted to try to contact him to see if he could send my son a photo or something...any suggestions on addresses to try?
