New wedding ring for dh and need help!

We are cruising the Eastern itenerary on 10/24. We wanted to do a vow renewal but really couldn't come up with the extra $$$ for that this trip but I would really like to take DH shopping for a new wedding ring. He lost his while working and is very upset about it. He looked for hours and couldn't find it (he's in the landscaping business). I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place for us to look for wedding rings while we are in St. Thomas? Really appreciate the help!! I'm not going to tell him until we get at the place to actually look at rings that I want to do this for him. would really love to be able to surprise him with one but I want him to actually try it on and make sure it fits!! Thanks so much!!

I recommend you look around at home before your cruise to get an idea of prices so you have something to compare them with on the island so you know if you are getting a fair price or not.
What kind of metal are you looking for: gold, platinum, stainless steel, titanium? Do you want a designer brand or just a nice band? Those things play a huge part in price.

I will SO echo what Jill is saying. If you're buying in the islands without preparing, it's just a matter of what you think it pretty. Shop at home first so you have an idea of what you want and prices. And remember, NOTHING is the first price you're quoted in the islands!

I have a suggestion...I have been in jewelry sales now for 9 yrs, and on our last cruise (June 08) I was interested to see what type of pricing and quality is out there, so we shopped for a few hours. I am afraid to say, compared to the store I work (locally owned) the prices were much higher...even after the "haggle" price. Why don't you convince him (with some story) that you want to just "get pricing" on a new ring then have the store clerk "size" his finger. Look around your local merchants and see if any thing catches your eye...you could surprise him with a new ring on the cruise, and have something special engraved inside like "Cruising to Celebrate" then take the extra money you saved to get a couples massage... ( I know it's not the same as buying on vacation and sometimes the extra money is worth the experience, just wanted to through out another option) Good Luck

Thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate all of your thoughts and opinions. Ottes4...I'm liking your idea better than mine!! Maybe I'll talk him into going looking this weekend. Thanks so much!
