Standing around and eating: Not a fan
Partly inspired by all the Food & Wine fest threads, I wondered if anyone shares an aversion to standing around eating little plates of food???
If I'm hungry, I'd like to sit at a table and eat a moderate amount of food, then move on. The idea that I get 2-3 bites of something and then have to go stand in line for another 20 minutes for 2-3 bites of something else is not my idea of fun. I had a similar experience at a local "taste of..." festival last month. Besides, I alway end up with something I can't cut with a fork, and you can't stand and use a knife and fork on one of those little plates. Similarly at parties, I'd prefer not to eat at all. I'll just have a beverage, thanks.

I can see how it might be not everyone's cup of tea. I LOVE F&W though. It's fantastic.

That's why it's called "A Taste of...." You get enough to just taste the food, not make a meal out of it.
The functions I've always attended that had the whole "standing around and eating" thing always had finger-type foods: served in bite-sized chunks that you can eat with a fork or toothpick. |

I'm totally a fan of the "grazing" concept. This is probably because I have been in corporate America long enough that I am used to "lunch while walking."

If I'm hungry--I'll eat. Sitting down would be lovely--but they don't always have enough tables at tasting events.
I do prefer meals to not be on the go--don't have as much of an issue with snacks and such. Probably why I have eating issues. My last food and wine festival, I bought my dinner, baked ziti a glass of wine and a dessert (which I have since forgotten)--and then went back to where dh was at the ampitheater and enjoyed some show. So i did sit down to eat and bought my items as a "meal". I can't stand the flimsy paper plates though. (the el cheapo ones that are like a million for a buck). As long as it is a sturdy plate, I'll deal. |

Standing and eating appetizers is my favorite thing to do. Like Caradana I am more of a grazer anyway.

If I am at someone's house for a party, I do like to be able to sit and eat. I find that trying to balance my drink, plate, and socialize all at the same time usually causes me to spill something.
But, I love the Food and Wine Festival at both DL and WDW. I love being able to taste many things and drink different wines. I found this South African wine in Epcot that I fell in love with just by getting a small sample. And I know I got drunk (not driving, trust me) at DL's event this year. They had these two wine walks you could take and it was $10. You got to try one wine from each region, and it was just a small taste. Except on the first one I did, the guy in line in front of me was a total rude wine snob with poor manners and was annoying the pour staff to no end. I was really nice to them (figuring they could use a friendly face after Mr. Snob) and they doubled and tripled my pours. Yee-ha! So, I guess I'm in-between most people here on the topic.

I learned long ago not to attend a social function hungry. Always make sure you've eaten something so if the courses are few and far between, you still can be sociable.
![]() I love standing around snacking. Having been to such a function in many years. |

we were at the mall a week ago, stopped at the DQ to get some cones. We sat at a table and enjoyed our ice cream, plenty of tables open & clean around us. Four girls got pizza and stood at the trash can. Yep, had the little plates on it and circled the trash can while they ate.
I can do both I guess. If I know I'll be standing, I sure won't grab a steak and attempt to eat it. I could live off the little veggies and dip.

I LOVE appetizers and little dips/party food. In my opinion, this is the best way to break the ice at a party---try a few things and then chat around the refreshment table (and if you want to get away from a conversation--you can say "Oh look, they just put out more crab dips--I hear they are divine."(and you are outta there).

I don't mind it so much for finger foods and the like. I do hate trying to balance too much (a drink and a food that needs to be cut). I wanted to give my experiene with the F&W Festival. We were there on Tues., Weds., and Thurs. 2 weeks ago. At every single stand we had 0 or 1 person in front of us, so we waited at a maximum 1-2 minutes to order. There were also enough tables around that you could stand and put the dish down while eating. I know it would be different during a busy time.

I really enjoyed the F & W festival this year.
I knew I would still be having a sit down meal some point during the day so it was just fun to try different foods. I could go for a sausage with pretzel bread right now.

I don't mind standing and eating, anything from a burger to a cup of soup. Too many years of horse shows and eating while I can. DH actually prefers to stand while he eats if it's possible. I've also mastered the art of eating soup or a hot dog while sitting on my horse waiting for a class to start.
