Switching Resorts after Check in ?

We are leaving for the WL in 21 days We are a monorail family - no doubt. With the Poly being our favorite resort. I agonized over where to stay this trip but wanted to save some money so we went with the WL.

My question is if, upon arrival and staying at the WL, we decide it's just not for us and want to move to a different resort - like the Poly, can we do so while keeping our same package? We have 10 day park hopper and free dining.

Will they allow us to move to the Poly - if there is room, of course - if we hate the WL and still let us keep our package and only pay for the upgrade in the room?

I believe they will let you move to the Poly, if you don't like the WL, providing that they have availability.

We stayed at POR one time, and decided after a couple of nights, to move to another resort, and had no problem. Our packages transferred right along with us to the other resort.

By the way, we just stayed at WL last month, and loved it. Of course, it's not a monorail resort, but we really enjoyed staying there. You do still have boat transportation from WL to the MK.

Hope you have a great time!!

Thanks for the information! Do you know about how long the boat ride is from the WL to MK? My daughters did not like the boat ride from DHS to the Boardwalk. They thought the boat moved too slow. Is it a pretty similar ride from the WL to MK?

We love the Poly and were suprised how much we also love the WL. They are different. My kids loved the boat ride. It seemed faster than the one we had from PO rivcerside to downtown Disney.

I think the boat ride is going to be a hard sell for my kids. Ever since we took it from DSH to the Boardwalk, they want nothing to do with Disney boats I think we are going to have to take the Bus to and from the MK.

I at least want to give the WL a chance. if we hate it, hopefully, we can move.

I can't imagine that you would hate WL, but I guess everyone has their own likes and dislikes. We loved WL overall....but I do have to say, we were not that thrilled with Roaring Forks. Whispering Canyon and Artist Point....both were really good. It just seemed like to us that RF didn't have alot to choose from.

We didn't take the boat from WL to MK, so I'm not sure how fast or slow it is. The boat from Hollywood Studios to Boardwalk was kinda slow, I thought.

Our expectations are not too high for Roaring Forks. We only use resort counter services for our refillable mugs and maybe a breakfast sandwich here and there. We aren't expecting anything too fancy. We might give WC a try but the menu doesn't appeal to us that much - but we might try it. I couldn't get my family in to Artist Point for anything after showing them that menu. It's just not our tastes

The boat is 5-10 minutes & the bus is more like 5 minutes, but total transportation time depends on how long you have to wait for either one. The boat dock is closer to the MK turnstiles than the bus drop-off. Go with whichever is closer to your room We're always in the Villas, and the bus is just outside the door, so we usually take the bus to MK and the boat on the way back.

We've never ever had to take a bus to the MK before I am getting sad just thinking about that now. It just kind of hit me there.

I think there is one caveat to your plan. I believe the booking window for the free dining promotion is closed. If this is the case, I do not believe that you could move to the Poly and keep your free dining. That promotion would simply not be available to move to.
Sorry if this is not what you want to hear.

I have done this several times. Can you tell I am a resort changer? I called this time too. They will keep the free dining promotion as long as I upgrade the resort. They will do this with all types of promotions as long as you are upgrading, ie paying more, even after the promotion deadline ends. At least that is what several CM's have told me.

ONLY if there are available rooms with that particular discount left. Each resort is allocated xxx amount of rooms for free dining.
IF all the free dining rooms have been booked for your dates, then you will not be allowed to switch and keep free dining...IF they have availability for Free Dining rooms and you pay the difference, I am sure it will be no problem.

I've never stayed at Poly, but have stayed at CR and WL numerous times. As a monorail person myself, I do think you will be disappointed. WL is amazing, but there is nothing like walking out of your resort and hopping on the monorail. I don't like the bus system, and the boat is annoying to me. I always say the CR is my favorite because the monorail goes through-- if it went by all the resorts, that would be a different story...

That is what I am afraid of. I think we will be disappointed too, BUT we know that going in so maybe it won't be such a let down. Plus, we have always gone during extremely busy times, Christmas, NYE and Spring Break, so having the monorail really helped out. I was hoping going at a little slower time, we do not need to be in such a rush to get to everywhere.

I definitely think the girls are going to be disappointed not having the monorail. But at least we are going!
