micro fiber sofa cleaning ?

Hello. We have micro fiber sofa and love seat that need cleaning. We bought these at Wicks and had life time cleaning but they went out of business a year later

I need to know what i could use for a good cleaning and/or atleast spot cleaning. If anyone has micro fiber sofas and have cleaned them with success please let me know-Thanks

My niece has a cream colored micro fiber living room set and her son "accidentally" wrote on it with a blue pen. When she called the company they suggested using regular baby wipes to clean the pen mark and it worked (be sure not to saturate the fabric and DO NOT use water it will cause a water stain). She was worried about it leaving a water stain on the fabric but it didn't and the pen mark was completely gone. I would try it in a spot that you can easily hide just in case. Good Luck!

I have a microfiber set and my son wet on it while potty training pretty badly so I had no choice but to use my carpet cleaner on it and it came out fine. Do not recommend this unless absolutely needed though. As the instructions that came with it say to dry clean only. I have also had to spot clean at times- I use a damp paper towel and if needed a little bit of non bleach dish soap on it. Worked for me without any problems. I let it air dry. That being said if I had to do over with having kids I would get something that can be cleaned easier and without worries.

Can you take the covers off the cushions and wash them in the washing macine?? Just wondering because I also have a microfiber sofa and totally messed it up trying to clean something off it.

No definately do not do that. That will totally ruin it more than likely. You do not want to saturate it when you clean it at all if you can help it. (As I said I only used my steam cleaner on it because my son made a big mess and there was no other way to clean it proper to be sure it would not smell and or stain.) Not to mention the material would probably shrink in the washer as well. I was afraid what it might do using the steam cleaner on it but it did not do anything horrible to it. After drying the material feels slightly rougher is all. But nothing real noticeable luckily. Washing it if it did not shrink would probably make it really really rough and noticeable.

Also as a disclaimer: I do not know if all microfiber is made the same (may be different mixes of matterial out there) so you would want to try a little spot first before proceeding with any treatment. I was pretty sure that the steam cleaner would not harm it as I had spot cleaned other spills with a damp paper towel and dish soap without problem. However I was still concerned with the amount of liquid involved. Luckily the only thing that happened is a little bit of roughness but nothing worth worrying about. It is not ruined or anything like that.

Also I do not know if my furniture was scotch guarded beforehand or not. Which may or may not make a difference with how you can clean it. We know we did not have this done but we bought our set at Big Lots. It is actually part of Ashley Furnitures Signature Collection.

Found this site to help you all out: http://www.cleanyourmicrofiber.com/i...iber_Furniture

we used a damp cloth with soap and water to get crayon out when DD got a little too free with her artistic abilities. It worked fine. I'm not sure if ours was treated prior to purchasing or not.

We just use water, sometimes we use a small amount of soap depending on the stain but normally plain water works great.

From researching I found that some microfibers you can use water fine and others you should use solvents only. Look on the instructions that came with your furniture. If it has a w you can use water if it has an s use solvent only. X means do not use anything you need professional help for sure. WS means you can use either solvent or water.

All that being said mine has an S and I have had no problems with mine doing what I did to it. Microfiber is made out of polyester though and it can have different blends of material so you want to be careful.

Also my instructions said to never take the fabric off the cushions even though they have zippers.

Everything I have read says not to use a power nozzle vacume attachment on it either.

You should not machine wash unless the directions tell you machine washing is allowed.

Hope this helped. Also the link I posted above answers many of these questions.

Well this is going against everything posted here, but its our story. We have 2 micro fiber sets. I unzip my cushions and wash them once a month, no issue with staining or spotting. And then I use my little green machine to clean the arms and backs. Again, no issue. I guess it depends on the brand, because like I said, ours is perfectly fine.

Our Natuzzi microfiber couch and Chair had 8 years worth of stains so when I recently got a carpet cleaner to do our carpets I used the upholstery atachment on the couch and chair and they turned out great. Used the same solution in it as I did on the carpets (Rug Doctor stuff). I was worried about it but figured I would try it as the stains were really bad (2 kids and dog).

Turned out good after I stopped worrying about water and decided to go over the bad spots as many times as it took to get it clean. It actually didn't take that long to dry off either.

Of course try this at your own risk, but it worked for us and I couldn't be happier.

Yeah as I said I had no problems using a steam cleaner with a water solution on mine either. But someone else might have a different matterial so I am hesitant to tell someone to go ahead and do it esp. if the instructions that came with the furniture says not to do it. There are different types of microfiber out there. Some can get wet without problems while others can not.

Seems like from everything I have read people have not found a problem getting it wet though. Maybe it is just the manufacturer wanting to protect themselves or bring in money for the professionals.

We have a microfiber couch and baby wipes stain mine. They leave a water ring (like a cloud). Any kind of liquid does, like if my baby drools on the couch. We had someone come and clean it from our stain warranty. They recommended auto upholstery cleaner. It cleaned it pretty well, but the stains did not come out all the way. We'll see what they recommend next

Have you checked out the website I posted earlier. That site recommends trying regular lysol spray and rubbing it in to remove stains if you can not put water on your fabric.
