The psychologist and the agoraphobic go to WDW. Travel day minus 1.

Thursday 17th September 2009.

Me - Sue (aka Suzycute) - just the right side of 50
DD - Kate (aka Wishspirit) - just the wrong side of 21 (to be able to drink alcohol in the States).

Please bear with me - this is my first ever trip report and I just can't get the hang of photobucket - the pictures are either huge or microscopically tiny. Many hours of fiddling later, I have decided to go with the huge ones - sorry folks!

Travel Day minus one.

18 months in the planning and now the day is here – our first, but hopefully not our last, mother and daughter trip to WDW!

I had to work today but left a little early to do the last bits of packing. DH cooked us a meal - we think he was secretly delighted to wave us off at 6.30 as he would have the house to himself and no more endless chatter about Disney for the next 10 nights.

We debated to go clockwise round the M25 to Gatwick (rather than the quicker anti clockwise because the AA website said the traffic was horrendous) but decided to chance it and were glad we did as we sailed round, with only a short slow down near Heathrow.

Two hours later we had left our car with Maple Manor meet and greet at the North terminal and had trundled our cases to the Sofitel. I had always thought a hotel the night before was a bit of an extravagance and therefore up to now, we have always got up at dreadful o’clock to get to the airport. This time, we thought that Kate would be less anxious if we had a more leisurely morning and it worked so well.

I am now an official airport hotel convert!

We checked in to the Sofitel and asked for a runway view – we were given room 788.

It was beautifully clean and the beds were very comfortable. It was a bit dark to see the planes in detail but we had a great view of them taking off – not noisy at all.

Kate lay on the bed and did what she does best – watch trashy TV. I thought that the holiday would get off to a great start by going to the bar and sit and read a book accompanied by a large glass of wine. It was pricey but – hey – I’m on holiday!

We retired to bed about 11 and slept really well.

Great start. We became airport hotel converts a few years ago, it definitely gets the holiday off to a relaxing start.

I currently live in London until I have enough DVC points to stay at Animal Kingdom Villas every day of the year

Great trip report Mom! Although it wasn't trashy TV, it was Night at the Museum on Film 4. It was ok, and kept my mind of eminent flying!
