Fun, Family Restaurants outside the world - The DIS Discussion Forums

I am getting ready to make ADRs in a few weeks, and this year, we are staying at Wyndham Bonnet Creek, not in The World. With no DDP, our plan is to book one fun DTD restaurant (T-Rex, I think), and one or two character meals (probably Park Fare and Chef Mickey). We love to go out to eat, but we are not doing parks everyday, and don't want to pay full park price everyday for food. I was looking for suggestions on fun, very kid friendly restaurants with still some appeal for adults. We have 6, 4, and 3 year old girls, so we are looking for value, fun, and family friendly. Prefer to stay close to WBC, but will drive a bit if it is worth it. Want to know, because wondering if I might need to do another World restaurant one of the days or spend time and save money trying things elsewhere.

We're staying offsite for our March visit too and are thinking of doing the same thing as you regarding your dining reservations. So far, we are thinking of T-Rex, Chef Mickeys, Crystal Palace, and Akershus as dining options but that's really it.

I agree that it's a good idea to not tie yourselves to a park every day to eat!

We do the same thing when we go...we stay offsite and do a few TS meals, character and offsite meals.

This year (Feb) we are planning on trying the Kobe Steakhouse. It is Teppanyaki and my kids loved Teppan Edo so we figured it would be fun one night. It gets good reviews so I'm hoping we'll like it.

We've never done any of the dinner shows because I don't think we would like the food.

A couple other faves or ours are Carrabbas for Italian, Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse. There is also a seafood place ....maybe Landry's Seafood...can't remember where they had a magician or something come around. Food was very good but a bit pricey.

We are also planning on trying Texas Roadhouse this year as well. I've heard the food is good and it's very family friendly.

Buffalo Wild Wings. It is in the Crossroads Shopping Center. They have yummy wings and cold cheap beer for the adults.

How kid friendly is Bahama Breeze? We love seafood.

I think that Bahama Breeze is very family friendly. It's a nice restaurant that's almost always busy. The food is good but you may want to check out the menu at their website to see if the menu selection is broad enough for your family's tastes. There's a limited childrens' menu that features chicken & fries, a basic pizza and mac & cheese. There are probably a half dozen seafood dishes on the regular dinner menu.

I think I saw a Chevy's in the crossroads shopping center too. It's a tex mex place. There are quite a few restaurants in that area.

How about Orlando Alehouse?? I know it seems like a "pub" kind of place, but okay to take 8, 9, and 10 year olds??? I didn't see a kids menu online.

How about the ESPN Club at BoardWalk or Disney's Wide World of Sports Cafe at the Wide World of Sports complex? Or the Big River Grille and Brewery, also at BoardWalk, if you can get one of the outside tables. Or the Celebration Town Tavern in Celebration (inside is nice, but if the weather is cooperative outside seating the "Boston Garden" is a fun experience).

Don't know what is on the kids menu, my babies are teenagers now! There is a Joe's Crab Shack, waiters dance and make you wear bibs. There is always fun music playing and tons to look at. We don't have one in our area, heck the entire state, so it is usually a treat we have when at WDW.

Thanks for all the suggestions. How are the lobster buffets? We attended one about five years ago - Angel's, I think, and we found it good. I have heard they have gone down. Can someone say yay or nay to this? What about Boston Lobster Feast? Does anyone know the pricing for children 3 and up?

We often go to Downtown Disney to eat and have eaten at Johnny Rockets at Pointe Orlando as well as at the Capital Grille.

The company we rent from has covered both areas in their blog just recently and you might find it interesting.

We liked Chevy's at the Crossroads as we don't have that in Canada. Also, Steak N Shake, and CiCi's for cheap family eats.
