Beach Club vs Yacht Club

Happy Friday!

I was hoping someone could fill me in on the basic differences b/w the BC and YC? Is one "quieter" than the other? Which would you choose? I have 2 kids 9 & 12 yrs. We want to be close to Epcot & DHS this time.

Thanks!

YC lobby is quieter than BC lobby.

YC has no counter service; BC has some beverage station and some foods at the BC Marketplace.

YC rooms have full balconies; many at BC do not.

YC decor is dark woods; BC is lighter/brighter.

BC is one minute closer to Epcot; YC is one minute closer to boat dock to DHS or walking to DHS.

YC is picked up/dropped off before BC on shared bus routes.

We have stayed at both and we prefer BC. Even with the noisier hustle/bustle feel of the lobby that many on the dis complain about.

That's a pretty comprehensive listing.
We stayed at the Yacht Club last year and loved it. Our dd was 2 at the time. Maybe I'm just stuffy, but I way preferred the decor at the YC over the BC.

I have three DSs who were 6, 9 and 13 at the time of our stay at the YC and they loved it. Boats and other nautical stuff decorating the interior. They actually preferred it over the BC which they thought was girly - yeah, they really weren't into the coral colored chairs and seafoam colored seashells .

BC lobby was much noisier than YC lobby IMO despite equal numbers of people flowing thru.

YC does host a lot of conventions so there are a lot of groups hanging out in the lobby in the AM as they wait for their meetings to start and late afternoon but not necessarily using the pool or going to the parks.

We went to Cape May for breakfast one AM then out to the BC bus stop to go to the parks. The BC bus stop did have many many more people at it. Enough that not everyone could get on the bus to MK and we had to wait for the next bus and while we got on that one there were still not enough seats for everyone waiting to get on.

YC does have a minimal counter service at breakfast time at the Ale & Compass. Continental breakfast type stuff. You can redeem snack credits or QS credits for these items.

Hurricane Hannah's and BC market place are also available for YC guests and are only about a 3 or 4 minute walk.

BC has a beautiful atrium with a TV not tuned to disney cartoons as well as the lobby for a rest with a snack or while waiting for the rest of our group to come down from their rooms.

I have some interior photos of the YC lobby if you want to see them.

I believe YC has a bar (with great wine) and BC does not. I prefer YC, I just think its quieter and shows less "wear".

I've stayed at both and IMO the BC is just plain old more laid back. YC was kind of stuff.

Rooms at both are terrific and it's not hard to travel from within the resorts themselves ( ie- for food, SAB, etc ).

The thing I liked about BC was that it is the closest to Epcot. I was there with my mom who was having a hard time getting around at the time so that was the biggest plus for us.

Have fun, you won't be disappointed with either.

I prefer YC...I think it's quieter, more relaxed. However, my sister prefers BC...so half our party stays at one, half at the other. It's so incredibly easy to get back and forth between them you can easily use amenities at either (unless of course someone has difficulty walking...or you are toting strollers and multiple litle ones.)

I'd look at photos of rooms and lobby at both and pick based on the decor you prefer. If you are looking for "quieter" I'd say YC. Also if the balcony is important to you.

You'll love the place! It's great! You can't really go wrong with either....

We love the BC! The atmosphere is just so relaxed and the location to walk to Epcot is so close. We love the pool too, but you get that with both resorts. Pick one to stay at and then visit the other and you'll know for next time

Depends on what you're going for. With kids, I'd say BC hand down- it feels like grandmother's huge beach house on the Cape or something. It also has great kid-friendly restaurants (Cape May), but keep in mind that you could stay at YC and have like a 5 min walk to Cape May- it's not that big of a deal. It really comes down to what you want as a theme. As previous people have mentioned, BC certainly comes across as more laid-back, beachy, open, airy, and bright. YC felt like an ivy league club lounge- thing Cornell Club in NYC or stately yacht ship. It has a very cool feel to and I wouldn't consider it not to be kid-friendly. It just appeals to different types of people. If I had a son interested in sailboats and the ocean, I'd definitely pick YC. Also, keep in mind that the BC and YC are huge complexes to walk past from the outside. My fam's favorite park is Epcot and when we stayed at YC we were closer to the wedding gazebo so it made the early morning walk to Epcot for EMH five min longer than the location we had when we stayed at BCV. I noticed that you mentioned you wanted to be at both DHS and Epcot this time, so I guess that cancels that consideration out...

It cracks me up that half of us think BC is more relaxed and the other half say YC is more relaxed!! I think the difference is (feel free to disagree) that BC is more "laid back" (in the words of a pp) and YC is more "quiet." You are more likely to see kids running around in BC lobby and hallways, so if your kids are high energy, you may feel more "relaxed" there. Whereas YC tends to be quieter, more calm...so if you are looking for a quieter atmosphere than the parks, it feels more "relaxed." Yes?

Also...there is a wine bar, but there is also the lounge of Yachtsmen's Steakhouse, which is great! Some entrees/aps from the Yachtsmen's menu, plus bar type food, in a very much more relaxed atmosphere than the restaurant itself. Nice spot for a chilly evening, a quick drink, snack, casual lite dinner. Also right near the crossover to Beach Club.

My DD chose the YC for her 10th birthday trip this past January and we fell in love with the resort. I don't get the comments that it is "stuffy" - I didn't feel that at all - I did, however, find it much more serene and enjoyed the richer, darker tones. The rooms were not dark, though - and they are in the process of a redo which admittedly they were probably ready for. I think the renovation started in June, so I would guess they would be done soon.

The walk to Epcot was about 7 minutes and that was from the furthest point of the YC (near the Dolphin) which is where our room was - we had the most beautiful view of the water and Boardwalk.

The downfall is as another poster had said, no counter service. But, there are continental type offerings available in the Compass Lounge in the morning (bagels, croissants, muffins, juice, coffee, etc.) and there are two really terrific restaurants - the Captains Grill and the Yachtsman Steakhouse - two of the best meals we have EVER had in WDW were at these places.

The walk over to the BC Marketplace is only a couple of minutes as well as Beaches and Cream (best burgers around).

I'm sure whichever you choose, you will have a great time! Good luck!

I think the Yacht Club lobby/public areas are more elegant. When I'm paying that kind of $, I like elegant! That part is darker, but the rooms are not dark at all.

The resorts are great and in a fantastic location, so you can't really go wrong either way.

The YC is wonderful, I've always found it a haven of peace and tranquility from the parks, I love to take time out sit on the full size balcony reading a book late afternoon before I head out to dinner/a park for the evening.

I've never stayed at the BC but it does appeal to me, even though it seems the opposite of the YC (i.e. more noise/happenings), it's such a pretty resort.

Two words - full balconies. YC has them, many (most) rooms at BC do not. We love to sit out on the balcony at night, so we prefer the YC.
