Sending in proof of age for kids...

Got my reservation in the mail on Saturday (post marked last Friday). It says I have 2 days to send in verification of my kid's ages. I didn't read this until today and the 2 days has passed... will they automatically cancel my ressie??!

I don't recall having to send in 'proof' ahead of time. Clearly the incentive is to be correct and accurate for lying about your chidren would seriously impair their boarding capabilities.

That really doesn't make sense to me. I'd call and ask, but in the past--I just provide their birthdates and legal name as they appear on birth certificates or passports.

Who did you get the mailing from? I've never had to send in proof of DD's age ahead of time.

It would be pretty hard to lie to DCL about kids ages for too long since once at the port everyone has to show identification with either passport or BC which have your date of birth on them...even kids....so even if someone fibs on the ressie...they would soon be caught at checkin.

That sounds REALLY suspicious to me!! We've been on 7 DCL cruises, with 2 more booked, and we have never had to send them any proof of our DS's age.

I agree with outahere. They will look at birth certificates or passports when you check in, so they'll have proof of age at that time.

I would call Disney and ask them about it.

That is very strange. I have never heard of DCL asking for age verification, that is what passports and birth certificates are for. Also, I would think they would have given you more than 2 days to get it in, especially since they dont know how long it will take you to receive the mail. Usually if they requested info they would say something along the lines of "postmarked by (date)".

Was this request from DCL or a TA? In all my cruises, I've never heard of such a thing!

If from DCL, make a copy of the birth certificates. You'll need the originals to check in!

We booked 2 weekends ago for 11 mediterranean cruise and took advantage of the kids sail free deal. On the confirmation for our reservation, it said:

Kids Sail Free: Only for children age 17, verification of age is required to be faxed (give area code 4-7 fax #) within 48 hours of booking.

Our kids are not 17 (much younger) so this note to provide verification did not apply.

That's just bizarre. Why the heck would they require that?

A guess? Because someone who had not cruised before (and therefore wasn't in DCL's file) tried to book an 18+ kid as "17" and got caught at the terminal???? And then made a big stink about not paying for kid....or tried some crap about how they were 17 when the booking was made ....just a thought, absolutely no real knowledge.

This would make sense for someone trying to 'sneak' an 18yo on as a 17yo. Not that they could get away with it, but DCL is covering their bases so this wouldn't come up at the port.

You're probably right. It's amazing how people think they might get away with this. Obviously wandering cluelessly through life.
