Currently I have 3 vacation days left at work - I was planning on using 2 of them here for this trip and leave after work on Wednesday; however, I now have a business trip the week I was planning on using my other day. Looking at my schedule for projects and work going on, outside of these vacation dates, I can't use that 3rd day. This means - I may just leave early in the morning on 12/9 rather than 3:30pm to take it.
  • This will make me have to rearrange my schedule to account for lunch on 12/9.
  • I'm craving V&A's Monterey Abalone w/ Toasted Capers and Meyer Lemon like nobody's business.
  • I have my TIW card still until August 2010.
I'm debating internally if I want to rearrange everything and go to V&A solo (no wine pairing as I can't drink that much and drive back to the Pop Century and I hate buses) on either 12/10 or 12/11. I would be going solo which I've done at V&A before. This trip however was suppose to be budget because of it being before Christmas and doing CL in Feb. Plus - my husband will probably be jealous I get to eat yummy food while he gets to work.

Or - I could spend that $165 I would use towards this meal and get a massage from the Swan/Dolphin Spa. Thus less guilt potential from my husband.

Hmmm..... lots of decisions.... the wine paring at V&A would be a lovely treat for you... and you could always take a taxi...no wait times from V&A by the way...

I know. Decisions. I currently have a word document trying to help me with planning this out. I think I'm slowly coming up with a much better plan for this whole trip. Now to see if I can get the ADRS I want and still be able to do the things I want to do. Luckily, rides are the back seat this trip as I want to explore as much Christmas goodies as I can. My only must do for rides this trip are Space Mountain and the new ride at EPCOT - Sum of all Thrills - everything else is more so if I do it great! If I miss it - thats ok too. Currently debating on MVMCP or not too.
Or if I should do V&A or no?

At least I still have 6.5 weeks to figure this all out!

11:30AM - Lunch Reservations - 50's Prime Time

9:15PM - Dinner Reservations - Victoria & Albert's

Dec 13th

8:00AM - Breakfast @ Pop Century (w/ Snack Credits)
9:00AM - Hit the Road for home

Apparently V&A had no availability for the first seating on either the 9th, 11th, or 12th. No availability for the 2nd seating on the 11th either. Thus I went with the 12th's second seating.

Still no idea what do for dinner on the 11th now though. W/ this plan I have 2 unused credits so it leans me towards a signature dining place. Now its just a matter of which. There is no ADR availability for California Grill - I could always just try when they open to go sit at the bar (or sushi bar) and eat that way. I could do Flying Fish as I enjoyed it last trip. Not feeling like Yachtsman or Narcoossee's this trip as I just did those the last two trips. Other option would be trying for Kona on the 11th and then doing a sit down breakfast on the 13th or having it for a late night meal during the holiday party for the last credit.

I would vote for the sit down breakfast on your last day. That makes you feel complete when you do that. A reflective feast!

Ugh - ADR Madness that is today.

I got through to the V&A Reservation line at 11:08AM - Chef's Table for my day was still available. We got it. System crashed. Brought system back up - Chef's Table unavailable.

Trying to get back through and can't since then.

Edit: 10 hours after I started trying, I finally got through and have a confirmation number!

We got our chef's table for Feb!

Outstanding! You will have an amazing time! Sorry for such a crazy day, but I'm glad it worked out in the end!!!

BTW, my hubby craves that Monterey Abalone, too! LOL! Every so often he talks about it wistfully... I, on the other hand, can't get enough Waygu & truffles.

Oh I never thought about it like that. We have always just got up and go home on the morning we leave instead of hanging around. Although, I need to figure out what time on 12/13 the meeting I should be at is as that could play a part into my plans.

Thanks so much I felt like a crazy lady on Tuesday but I know it paid off. Plus thats the one reservation I wasn't going to trust IPO with on that day as I know it was crazy for them too.

Sounds like my husband and me. He loves the Wagyu & 'Kobe" beef (in fact its the only one he'll eat rare/medium rare as he makes me murder his poor meet at home when we cook filet) and while I used to crave the beef - after having the full serving of Abalone this last trip, I just want more! So warm & melt in your mouth Abalone. I'll probably end up doing the Australian "Kobe" for this Dec trip as I know I'll get some Wagyu in Feb @ the chef table. Depends on how much I spend during the trip most likely or what else comes up. (At least we already have 50% of our Christmas shopping done)

Thanks! This is our 2nd Chef's Table experience. We can't wait to go back

I need to stop second guessing my dining choices for December.
Watch me change everything once I get there too as I have a few friends around that week and will meet up with them probably a time or two.

IPO was able to get all my reservations for Feb! Haven't started second guessing those choices, but we may alter the trip length. My husband's work is currently in the running to win the big contest put on from their corporate which would be a week long cruise in May. So unless my work allows us to buy more vacation time next year, I'll have to do halve our Feb trip in order to get my Sept/Oct trip. We'll see what happens. I'll know in about 5 weeks on what I need to get done.

Kinks in the Plans
So - I was talking to my mother yesterday & she mentioned she was craving Disney as she hasn't been in over a year. She's now joining me for about 24 hours in this trip.

Plus, I have friends I'm going to be meeting up with for dinner now on Thursday.

Playing around with the online system - trying to figure out what's available for Friday night for 2. We will probably end up at Flying Fish or California Grill or Artist Point.

No more Citrico's on Thursday because of dinner with some friends.

Maybe I'll cancel V&A on Saturday to visit Citrico's on Saturday now.

My husband's work is winning their contest still so I'm debating on shortening the Feb trip before payment is due on Dec 23rd. If we change it - we'll come in on Friday night after work & leave on Tuesday. But hey - free week long cruise! At least I'll have a good idea on if he's going to win or not by Dec 23rd.

I love Shula's and if I didn't have one up here I would totally go when I go down there.

Also jealous about the chef's table, I tried for christmas but no dice. At least I got in there at all.

I am sad I'm missing you buy only a few days, but I'm sure there will be another time!

I can't want to hear about bluezoo because it's one I am interested in trying one of these trips.

Thanks for stopping by! You'll get the Chef Table one day. Plus I know this Dec is your V&A experience - you're going to love it.

6 More Days!

My plans have changed on this trip so many times, I'm not quit sure what I'm keeping and what I'm not from the original plan. Guess I'll find out soon enough

Can't wait until I can enjoy Disney food again. Mmmm Grey Goose Slushies...I have no clue how I'm going to enjoy my snack credits yet but I'm sure it all will be great.

I should be reporting mostly live this trip.

Day 1 - Breakfast & Sanaa

Dec 9th, 2009 – Part 1 – Breakfast & Lunch @ Sanaa

Breakfast
I woke up around 4:30AM despite having my alarm set for 6AM. Instead of tossing and turning, I figured might as well be productive and go.

Shortly after crossing into FL, I started getting hungry but didn’t want something much. I hadn’t had coffee yet or anything to eat as when I left it was too early to put something in my stomach. I decided to refill gas at the next non-completely sketchy exit which is turn brought me to a McDonald’s. I never eat there at home but well it was either their coffee or gas station coffee…

So I ordered one of their new Frappes – Caramel - $2.99.

It was eh. If I’m going to have a calorie-overloaded caffeine product I want it from Starbucks not McDonalds. It did its job of filling me up and perking me up for the next 2.5 hours until I pulled into the Pop Century.

I had done online check-in so my packet was waiting for me at the front desk and my room was already ready at 10:30am! Sweet! In the 90’s building close to the elevator not facing the pool so I guess that’s about the best I can do at the Pop for my tastes. I really am a deluxe girl but I know when I need to save money in one thing to splurge on the other.

After getting my luggage up and setting up camp for the next few days, I was getting hungry. I debated on cancelling Sanaa and just trying to walk in at Yak & Yeti but for some reason I decided against that.

Sanaa Lunch

Upon entering the Animal Kingdom Villas – I followed the signs for self-parking and the elevator. What I didn’t realize – was the set up for this resort is weird and where I parked in turn forced me to walk down the never-ending hallways for about oh 10 minutes (probably less but still felt like it) until I got to the lobby of this hotel.

They dont end I swear!

Checking in to the restaurant was odd. Yes I was about 30 minutes early but Ms. Hostess – Yes indeed I do want to eat now – I am sure of it! I wouldn’t be checking in if I didn’t want to eat you know?

I was sat at a two top overlooking the Savannah. Tables around me were filled.

To start I went with the Lamb Kefta - $5.99

This was completely different than what I had in my head with what it was going to be. Not necessarily bad but I wasn’t expecting meatballs. The flavor was great however they were a little dry on the inside. The sauce helped you ignore that fact.

Would I get it again? Probably not – I would probably go with the bread service.

For my drink I got the Painted Lemur - $8.29

It was great! Amarula and Tangerine Liquor you can’t go wrong.

For my entrée I had the Tandoori Chicken - $14.99

I had ordered this without tomatoes and well obviously either the waitress didn’t enter it or the chefs didn’t read it. However it was ok. The portion was HUGE. This could easily be shared between two people. I was able to pick around the tomatoes and still get full. The rice was great!

Nothing on the dessert menu really stood out to me as something I wanted. I did go with the Chai Cream - $4.99 though.

It was tasty but nothing I was really in the mood for so I didn’t eat much.

Overall, Sanaa didn’t impress me enough to go out of my way to eat there. My service was a little lacking too so that put me off some. If staying at AKV or AKL, I would definitely check it out again though.

Hooray! It's time to enjoy the food and beverages again! Sorry your Saana was not all that you had hoped. But the next meal is just around the corner right?
