Talking Elizabeth and the Seven Dwarves September 2009 TR *update 7/20 Complete

Hello all!!!! I am finally recovered (somewhat) from my two week adventure to Florida and Georgia. We got back last Monday 9/28 and it seems as soon as I spent one day in the cold Ohio weather I got a cold. Oh well nothing can break my just back from Disney Spirit.

So the details again.

The Who:

Me, Elizabeth 24, currently unemployed and looking for a job. Has been a Disney lover my entire life. Was there once before at age 6 with my Mom and Aunt. Lover of all things Pirates of the Caribbean, Nightmare Before Christmas and has a deep affection for both Stitch and Donald.

DM or Sue to all of you, will be 61 next week. She is retired and the best Mom ever. If you have read my PTR you know we have had a really rough year and needed this trip. She always manages to make me feel like her special little girl still but knows when to back off. She loves acting goofy as evidence by her pic below. Her favorite Disney character is Tinkerbell.

The Where:
Mainly Florida and Georgia but we did make over night stops in South Carolina and Virginia.

The dates:
9/13 to 9/28 (we added two more days on the road). Disney was from 9/15-9/21.

The Disney Resort:
Caribbean Beach resort.

Travel details:
Drove in our beloved Kermit. Two days there, two days back.

Up Next: Movin' Right Along, Footloose and Fancy Free.

Moving right along, footloose and fancy free

9/13/2009 Departure Day

The alarm went off in our house at 6:30am and as excited as I was to leave for disney I was exhausted from packing the night before. So my mom let me sleep for a little while longer while she showered and packed the cooler.

By 7:30am I was showered and ready to go. We packed up the car (with little room to spare), called the local police to let them know we would be gone, locked up the house, and were ready to leave by 7:56 am, 4 minutes ahead of schedule which is amazing if you know us

We stopped for gas and were officially on our road trip .

We drove through Ohio in what felt like record time with only two stops for restrooms and were finally greeted by this sign at 10:53am

From the Welcome to West Virginia visitors center, which is beautiful by the way, we switched drivers and finally turned on the tunes. Our first cd was a mix cd that I had created with various artists and was followed by my two disney mixes. We stopped for gas about halfway through WV and switched drivers yet again. I then set up camp in the backseat with pillows and my portable dvd to watch some of "Greek" Season 1 and to eat the roast beef sandwiches we had packed for the road (mom had eaten while I was driving).

Then at 2:26pm we were greeted by this

We switched drivers after stopping at the rest stop and visitors center. I drove all the way through Virginia. The drive was fine until we reached the Blue Ridge Mountains and the last 20 miles of Virginia was all down hill from there, literally. It was beautiful but at one point I was inbetween two trucks and praying all would be okay. I was so relieved when I saw this sign at 3:29 pm.

In North Carolina we stopped at the Visitors center and switched Drivers again. We drove along and stopped for a bite to eat in Statesville at an A&W Rootbeer. No food pics because the food was disgusting. The rootbeer was good but the food was . So we got back on the road and by 5:44pm we were greeted at the South Carolina visitors center.

We just used the restroom here since the welcome center closed at 5. We were driving along and all of a sudden we heard this beeping noise in the car. Mom asked if it was my cell phone and I said no. Well after another minute it hit me. It was my mom's alarm clock . Somehow when we were loading the car it had been set again (it is a battery operated clock). I was laughing so hard so from 6:30pm until 6:45pm we heard the beeping alarm . I think I still hear it in my sleep to this day.

When we got to the hotel in Richburg, I jumped out of the car and silenced the alarm. We checked in and were assigned room 111. It was a nice Days Inn but I am not sure I would spend more than one night one there. It was clean but the beds were so uncomfortable. After settling in we called my Grandma and Aunt to checdk in with them and after snacking a little bit we both fell fast asleep with visions of Mickey Mouse in our heads.

Coming up.. The best BBQ we have ever had.

Cool. It was a very beautiful state and one day I would like to actually be able to spend time there, instead of just driving through.

The best BBQ of my life
September 14,2009

So after an uncomfortable night's sleep we were on the road ready to go yet again. We woke up and had the car repacked and ready to go by 8:00am. The hotel had a free breakfast but nothing sounded appetizing to us. We decided to just check out and find breakfast down the road. After we filled up with gas we were on the road.

After a hour we spotted a sign for a cracker barrel and stopped. No food porn pics but mom had the Smokehouse Breakfast platter and I had pancakes. We checked out the gift shop and switched drivers and were back on the road again.

After a few minutes we finally reached I-26 after having been on I-77 since Canton, OH. If felt like it took forever to finally reach I-95 and then get out of South Carolina. But finally at 12:34pm we were greeted by this sign

After a quick stop we were back on the road. I kept annoying my mom by asking her if she could see the ocean yet. She was so excited to be so close and thought that maybe we would be able to see it from parts of the highway. There was lots of constrution on the various bridges but nothing that stalled us for too long. We stopped for gas (this was the most expensive we paid at 2.58 a gallon) and finally at 2:40pm we saw it the final state on our list

Florida

After 7 states and umpteen miles we were fianlly in Florida. I took this pic to prove it to my aunt

I then took in my first Florida Palm tree

After visiting the vistor's center, getting my free orange juice, and collecting every brochure on Disney and Sea World we were back on the road. I drove and we encoutered our first traffic jam in Jacksonville. There was construction on a busy off-ramp that had a fender bender at the entrance. After a slight detour we arrived at our Days Inn in St. Augustine at 4:13pm from what my camera tells me. We checked in and went to our room. Although it was a little on the small side it was beautiful. The bedspread was so cute, very tropical with monkeys. The beds were comfy.

We settled in and I went online to check e-mail and get addresses for post cards since one of the only two things I forgot to pack was my address book.

We decided we were really hungry since not having really eaten since breakfast. We had also planned on checking out the Outlet that was next door and the one across the street. We decided to see what was on our way to the outlet mall and found Sonny's Real Pit BBQ. Oh my stars it was the best BBQ I have ever had and the best sweet tea. No food pics because I had forgotten my camera back at the room. I had the rib sample platter which had baby back ribs and st louis style ribs with corn, fries, and cornbread. Mom had the pork platter with the st louis ribs, pulled pork, and smoked pork with a sweet potato, corn and corn bread. sooooo yummy. We even bought some of their sauce to bring home.

With full bellies we went shopping at the first of our many, many outlet malls. The one next to the hotel did not have much so we made our way across the street to the other one, jackpot. They had a Disney Character store with really good stuff. My prized purchase was for my cousin's 7th birthday. It was a black tee with Captain Jack Sparrow on it that says "My boyfriend is a Pirate" (btw she loved it and my aunt kept trying to figure out how she could stretch it out to wear it herself lol)

After the mall we returned to the hotel watched "Jon & Kate Plus 8" and retired for the evening..

Up Next a Morning at the beach and then the happiest place on earth gets scary but not so scary.

Great start to your trip report. I'm sorry to read about your dad (I went through a siemilar situation and my dad passed away a week before our trip last year). I'm glad you and your mom decided to go...it was a good decision.

Thanks so much for joining and the kind words. It was the best decision we ever made. We were able to relax and have fun for the first time in a long time. I also felt like my Dad was there every step of the way.

Since I have them uploaded I will post day 3. I will have to wait to post the photopass pics since I just ordered them the other day so here goes

A Morning at the beach and then the happiest place on earth gets scary but not so scary.
September 15, 2009

The morning started off as an early one for me. I was up at 5:45am and was too excited to fall back asleep. So I took my shower and got dressed and was ready at 6:30 when my mom got up and took her shower. We got the car repacked and were out of the hotel by 8am.

We headed for St. Augustine which was one of the reasons we decided to do the drive in two nights rather than one. My mom has always wanted to see the town and this would be my very first chance to see the ocean (on the trip when I was 6 I got to see the Gulf when we stayed with family in Tarpon Springs).

We were at the St. Augustine Lighthouse on Anastasia Island by 8:30 am. Here are some pics.

We then made our way over to the beach and got out to go on the pier. It cost me $.50 and my mom was free since she is well older. The pier was beautiful and the ocean was just wow. If you have never seen the ocean before it is a very humbling experience. It made me realize just how small I am in this world and how there is so much more to see in it. Here are some pics forgive me I look frightful in the one

We stopped in the visitor's center at the pier and the lady inside recommended a local spot The Oasis for a quick breakfast. We then drove on the beach to get to it

The Oasis was delish. I had a pancake with bacon, mom had french toast and we both had fresh squeezed orange juice and our check was only 10.56. So cheap.

Then we got on the freeway and when we finally reached I-4 I put the Disney music on and waited for the signs of Disney. I do remember taking a short cat nap and my mom woke me when we reached Orlando. I knew we were getting closer when we started seeing the signs for Universal and Sea World. And then I spotted it, My first Disney billboard, one for MNSSHP. I was getting really excited as was mom then at 12:07 pm we saw this.

Followed by this

We started screaming and hollering and car dancing

We were finally there. After over a thousand miles, two nights on the road, and a year and a half full of heartache we had made it.

After a slight case of getting lost we found the Caribbean Beach Resort and after checking in with security we pulled into the customs house at 12:20pm.

I had already done on-line check in so we got in that line and Amanda checked us in right away. Our room was ready but it was on the second floor and my mom sometimes has problems with stairs, so Amanda checked and if we wanted a different room we would have to wait. We then all decided to go check it out and see if she could handle the stairs. So we were directed to our room in Martinique building 26 room 2638. We got there and the stairs we fine. Very easy to climb up with railings on both sides. We took up a load together to find our nemo room .

It took me 4 trips to get everything upstairs but the room was well worth it.

TBC in next post

The original plan had been to go to DOwntown Disney, eat at Planet Hollywood and then head over to the MNSSHP but once we arrived at CBR we realized we would never make it if we did not rest for a bit. So I called and cancelled our ADR. It was just after one at this point so we both laid down for awhile and just wathced tv. I took a shower to freshen up while mom got changed. We then headed to the food court around 3:00 to get our refillable mugs (such a good deal) and take a quick look around. We then headed to the bus stop at Old Port Royale, it was closer to us than the Martinique one. We only had to wait a few minutes for a bus and twenty minutes later I was greeted by this sight

Snapped a few more pics

We went through baggage check and were at the turnstiles at 4pm and we let in. We received our wristbands and trick or treat bags. We made our way through the tunnel and we were finally on Main Street USA

Mom and I posed with Roy and Minnie

We then decided to take the train around to get a plan going. From the train station I took these

I then realized I was in tears. After the hard times we have been though I was finally in the place I have wanted to return to since I was in middle school. In some funny way my dad did make good on his promise to get me there. Of course not in the way he had originally intended with all of us but I know he was smiling down on his "girls" being able to enjoy something for the first time in a while.

Anyways we waited about 5mins for the next train and boarded. We were about halfway to the stop in Frontierland when the conductor got on the speaker and warned a man in car 4 to please keep his arms and legs inside the train or she would stop it. SInce he refused to listen she actually stopped the train and walked up there to tell him in person.

After once around on the train we got off and made our way through the rightside of the shops on main street.

So what would we ride first, where would we eat, and who made my night? Stay tuned for part 2 of day 3.

So I figured I should finish day 3

So we left off with us exiting the train and having made our way through the shops on the right side of main street. We were taking in the castle near the bridge over on the left side of the castle and got to see a man propose to his girlfriend. She said yes and all of us around them clapped.

We decided to head over the bridge and see what Pinochio's Village house had to eat. On our way there we saw that the wait for IASW was only 5mins so we hopped in line and were in the second boat to pull up.

Mom of course loved the ride as did I but if we did not ride it again the rest of the trip I would be okay.

We checked out Pinochio's and there was nothing that appealed to my mom so we sat down at a table to plan for a minute. We decided that after we ate we wanted our first ride to be POTC so we would see if we could eat at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. On the way there we noticed that the HM had a 5min wait as well so we hopped on. The line went by so fast I did not have time for pics and before we knew it we were in the "stretching room" and then in our doom buggy.

I absolutely loved this ride. It was just cheesy and spooky enough for me. When I was 6 I had refused to go on since it had the word Haunted in the title but I loved it.

On the way to Pecos Bill we saw that this guy had a very small line so we hopped in.

From my OP you know how I love Donald Duck and to have him in his Frontier outfit was priceless.

Now I forgot to mention that we were celebrating my mom's birthday while we were there so she had her birthday button on. Well Donald got so excited when he saw the button that he took her hand and started dancing with her. I wish I had pics.

After our moment with Donald, we finally made it to Pecos Bill. The line was short and we got our food quickly.

I had the Taco Salad, a bottle of water, and a chocolate chip cookie. The taco salad was very good since I was able to add my own toppings

Mom had their special of the night a fried chicken dinner, carrot cake and a large coke (which we split and saved the water for walking around later). She gave it a thumbs up and said it was good.

We used two quick service credits and it would have cost us 27.71 if we had paid OPP.

After dinner it was almost party time so we hit pirates which was walk on. I had been waiting years to ride this and was not disappointed. I am in love with POTC. Our boat was great, all of us singing along and having a good time.

We of course browsed the gift shop where mom got her MNSSHP tee and I got my stuffed Mickey dressed like a pirate.

Then it started to rain and get really hot. So we waited for awhile in the shop. I called my aunt to let her know we were there nad having fun. When it did not let up we donned our ponchos and made our way back to Pecos Bills for our first trick or treat stop. The candy was great. We then stopped at the Jungle Cruise for our next stop and I had a mini meltdown. I was so mad that it was raining (I know I was in FL) and I thought it was not gonna stop well no sooner than we had made it over to Fantasyland it had stopped.

We posed in front of the carriage and got a photopass pic. (I will post those once I get the cd).

Then we rode Peter Pan's Flight which was walk on. I loved it. One of the best dark rides in Fantasyland. My first Pirate love was Captain Hook so I was excited for his parts of the ride.

We then shed our ponchos and saw that there was a dance Party going on in Ariel's Grotto with these guys

We stayed and watched for a few minutes before noticing that Tigger and Piglet were out and had a short line. We hopped in and not 5mins later..

Great charater interaction. I never felt passed over since I was not a child.

Next was The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I loved it especially when you bounce like Tigger in your Honey pot. As we exited we noticed that Pooh and Eeyore were now out. So we hopped in that line and got our pictures done, photopass was there for them. Eeyore gave me the biggest hug and made my night. I have loved Eeyore ever since I was a little girl and missed seeing him when I was 6.

Then we took a look at Snow's line and it was just too long. So we moved onto Toontown and Minnie's house. Her line was not long at all and we were there in no time. She went crazy when she saw our minnie ears and we got huge hugs and "kisses" before we posed for our pic. (photopass)

Mickey's line was too long and we needed to start making our way to main street for Hallowishes.

So we too Alice and Mad Hatter's Treat Party Trail over to tomorrowland and meet

He was in perfect character and asked mw if I worked for the queen since my shirt was red (really dark pink). I told him no since when I was 6 she told me "Off with My Head", He said good and maybe I should speak to the union lol.

After the treat trail we passed through Tomorrowland and got seats on a bench on the bridge between tomorrowland and Main street.

Hallowishes was beautiful and I wish my pics had turned out better. The music was great and loved all of the Villians dropping in.

After the fireworks we made our way to main street to get seats for the Parade. We sat on the right side of main street near the hub. Once mom was settled in I went and got us Popcarn and drinks (I paid OOP) and we settled in to watch the parade. We saw parts of the Villians mix and mingle while we waited. Then the headless horseman rode through. I took video of it as it was really cool. Then after what seemed like forever the Parade started. I videotaped while Mom took pics. Some came out okay most did not.

Now these guys were dancing with shovels that sparked on the ground and since I was recording and not payin to much attention one scared the life out of me and you can hear my scream on the video.

The parade was great and I still have "Boo to You" stuck in my head lol.

After the parade Mom was tired so she said she would hit the bathrooms and make her way up front and meet me at the Train Station while I went in search of a few more characters.

I hauled it back to Fantasyland and meet these guys

Snow had left for the evening so I gladly stepped in

Then I met

I took this as I headed out down main street

I made my way through the Emporium where I picked up my MNSSHP tote bag and met mom by the train station.

We left the park at exactly midnight and were back at the CBR by 12:30. We got in our PJ's watched some Stacy and were asleep by 1am

Next up: A change in plans and will someone get a leash for Nemo so he stops getting lost.
