Anyone get upgraded after booking SPH room?
Just wondering if you pick one of these rooms if you still have a chance of an upgrade.
Thanks

Unless you have it noted on your reservation that you do not wish to be upgraded, you have a chance.

Most people do not want to be upgraded from a SPH and I think that DCL realizes that some work hard to book one of them with tracking availability to snag one. You could be upgraded from a SPH / cat 10 to a cat 9...which many would consider a downgrade in location since the SPHs used to be cat 8s. This probably lessens the chance since that means DCL would probably upgrade those rooms to at least a cat 6 since cat 7s don't sleep 4 like the SPHs do. Anything is possible though.

So since there are 3 of us, we could have a chance at a cat 7 then. That would be cool!

Would someone be willing to explain the SPH rooms to me. How do you book them? Online? With DCL direct? How do you know which ones they are?
Thanks for any help!

SPH is secret port hole. These rooms used to be called cat 8, but were re-categorized as cat 10 because the views are partially obstructed. SO, you pay for a cat 10, but you get a full sized window. The room numbers are in the "sticky"...sorry, I don't remember them.

The SPH cabins are reclassified cat. 8 cabins, they are now cat. 10's. You can book them just as you would any other cabin. They are 5020, 5022, 5024, 5520, 5522, and 5524 on both the Magic and the Wonder. The 20's are the least obstructed. 22 & 24 are connecting cabins.

My DH just asked me that the other day after we booked 5020 for our Med cruise. I told him I didn't think so. If someone ever HAS had an upgrade from a SPH I'd like to hear about it too!!
We had 5520 on our back-to-backs last summer on the Wonder...here's a couple pics below. As an "obstructed view" for the price of an INSIDE room it was a fantastic deal. It's a great value. That's why we booked one again for the Med. Unfortunately I doubt we'll ever get an upgrade again as long as we book these rooms. This was our view while still docked at Port Canaveral This was our view at Castaway Cay This is where they are from the outside of the ship...just above those lifeboat canisters. They are in that recessed area just to the left of that porthole over the 'D'. (That porthole starts the new Cat 9A's.) (And Lisa's right - some of us work very hard at getting these rooms!! She knows what a panic I was in last Monday trying to get one! )

Thanks for posting the pictures. That's the one we have booked for the MR cruise.
The last cruise we booked the secret verandah room and we were upgraded to a cat 4 on deck 8. So I guess anything is possible.

Oh Wow! That's great to know! What great luck! I priced one of those SV rooms for our Med cruise, along with a couple of other options. Just COULDN'T justify the price difference since the 10 night Med has 7 ports in 7 days!! It was WELL OVER $2,000 more. I figured that difference could be about 5-6 days worth of excursions or flights for a couple of us...

We are cruising on 10/24/09 and two of my fellow shipmates who were booked in a SPH got upgraded to cat 8's just down the hall from the SPH rooms. Two others who booked SPH rooms did not get upgraded.
I stole one of those SPH's when they got moved The only difference that I can see was that those who got the free upgrades were both 2 in a cabin while those who didn't were both 3 to a cabin. Not sure if that made a difference or not

Any more than that, I think they would be complaining as those rooms can get a little noisy from the Walt Disney Theatre! |

7120, 7620, 6134, and 6634. They were originally cat. 5 and cat. 6 and have been reclassified at cat. 7's. I've been lucky and able to get 7620 for my next 3 cruises on the Wonder and Magic.
