Does anyone know if it's possible to order off of the lunch menu at dinner time?

Maybe?
It depends on the location and the item. I have ordered a burger at dinner at the Sci Fi Diner even though the burger is only on the lunch menu. I'm pretty sure if the lunch menu has a lower priced smaller portion version of a normal dinner menu item then they will not allow you to order the lunch version.

I would agree. As long as the lunch item is not on the menu I think most places would allow.
I too ordered a burger at Sci Fi at dinner and when I asked the response from our waiter was, Of Course, this is Disney! |

Thanks! We have an ADR for San Angel for dinner (the kids wanted to eat there), but I'm not sure they're going to like anything on the dinner menu. There are a items on the lunch menu they'd like.

I have read here on other earlier threads that Sci Fi is the exception. Most places do not allow it. I have no personal experience, just remember reading that here more than once.

I'm gonna bump this, because I really want ot know the answer too. I'm traveling with a bunch of picky eaters, and I feel like the lunch items are generally more "familiar" than some of the dinner options.
Also, we made ADRs for San Angel as well...and my party is...well...unadventerous when it comes to forigne food.

1) This is true. 2) Once the kitchen lines are re-set, seldom can you get a lunch item at dinner. 3) It takes too much labor to break into the the rhythm of dinner meals. 4) Most of the lunch fixin's are already put away. 5) Can you imagine if several people did this? 6) It would slow up the dinner servings and get other guests upset at the delay. |

we did this at Kona- DS ordered a burger which was only on the lunch menu. Not a problem! I would think the kitchen is perfectly capable at any restaurant, it's probably a matter of their computer system letting them order stuff and how flexible management is.

I am seeing a pattern here. Everyone who was able to get a lunch item for dinner got a hamburger! It could be that they are precooking the patties, and having them on hand for "picky" eaters, then just heating them when they are ordered? That wouldn't disrupt the dinner line.

It went to Looneyland, by way of Crazytown, with a detour through Wackoville, and a stop for snacks in Bonkerscity

Burgers may be the exception. Sort of like at any restaurant, you can order a steak or a burger even if it isn't on the menu.

I've worked in a few different restaurants, and *if there is time*, usually the chefs can whip up anything you want. For example, I worked at the chain Red Robin. Things would come and go on the menu, but regulars would come in and ask for a certain burger or salad- as long as the ingredients were still in the kitchen, the cooks would make it and management would just key in manually the menu item. Most restaurants want to work with you to make you happy! Disney may be different cause they feel they gotta get people in and out of there quickly, but if they can make exceptions for food allergies/religious observations, I think they can do the occasional lunch item for dinner. |

1) Burgers are really easy.
2) And, simple. 3) And, not labor intensive. 4) All you do is pull them from the freezer (or frig), peel the paper and fry. 5) That is why you can get burgers almost any time. 6) Other dishes take a lot of prep. 7) So, they cause a ripple in the flow and rhythm of the kitchen. |

This didn't happen at Disney, but we found ourselves at Cracker Barrel alot when DS was in his "Hamburger for breakfast" stage.. and he absolutely had his heart set on one, and so I asked the server and she reminded me that a hamburger was about the only thing from lunch that they could get ready because of how easy it is to make!
So, OP if the ingredients in the food your kids will like include like corn tortillas, chicken and cheese or something it may not be too hard to get! |
