How close is Davenport really to WDW 4 parks?

How close is the Davenport area to the WDW 4 parks? How long does it take you to get to each park? We are going to WDW in July 2010 and have a house booked but part of our family may have to cancel and the house will be too big and expensive for just us 5. I was looking at 4 bedroom houses in Davenport. They seem to be a lot cheaper. Are they really far away from the parks? Is there a lot of places to eat near by and to shop, like Walmart?

Is there any house that you would recommend? I would like a 4 bedroom, with game room, and pool.

Thanks for any help

It depends where in Davenport the house is located. It is about 12 miles for me to the parks.

An address of Davenport encompasses a pretty big area. I have a relative who has a Davenport address but it nearly within walking distance to the AK.

Get the street address of the home/villa you are considering and then map quest it or google map it to AK or the intersection of Black Lake and 192 East. that will give you a feel for how far it is to the AK entrance to WDW.

I agree with the above two posters, it depends exactly where in the city. I'm two blocks into Davenport over by Champions Gate, and not far from the parks at all--in fact, closer to MK and AK than when I lived over by Sea World. Figure 10 minutes to the MK parking lot, maybe 20 to EPCOT or DTD. The stretch of Davenport over on 27 is a bit farther, although still not bad.

In the touristy parts of Davenport, where the rentals are, there are a fair number of restaurants and stores (although I am much closer to two Targets and multiple Publix than a Wal-Mart). That said, it just feels quieter over here, compared to I-Drive or 192.

The only place we ever stay is in Davenport at Sandy Ridge. We honestly enjoy the drive to disney better as we don't have to deal with stop and go traffic like some of the other rental's that are "closer". From the villa to MK's parking lot takes us about 20 minutes. (Only 10 to the Disney exit, but about another 10 minute from the exit to finally reach the parking lot) For us it's not that far of a drive as it takes my husband that long to drive to work every day or for us to visit my parents.

I would recommend the house we are staying in as it's a 4 bedroom w/ private pool & jacuzzi with a private backyard, but it doesn't have the game room.

Communities close to the 192/27 junction around the Lake Davenport area are only 8 miles from the general area of the Disney parks. You can use Black Lake or Sherberth roads or the 429 depending on which park you want to go to.

I can tell you this. We live to the west and when we pass the intersection of I-4 and US-27, it takes about 10 minutes to reach DHS, another few to reach Animal Kingdom or Epcot, and a few more to get to MK. MK is the longest because of distance and the need to take a monorail or ferry.

If you're looking for stores and restaurants, maybe you should look for rental communities along 192. Windsor Hills would be one, but there are others. Google Kissimmee 192 and you can find the site that has a map of businesses and communities in the area.

Agreed. For a small town, Davenport takes up a lot of space. It all depends on how close you are to either I-4 and US 192. Disney is about 10 minutes from the I-4/US Hwy 27 Exit.
