Surprising My Mom With A Trip To Disney World?
She doesn't like the Disney parks or any theme park. She doesn't go on rides because of her stiff neck. She doesn't like to be around children since she's a teacher's aid so she's around school children all day. But she does however love Walt Disney. She grew up watching him on Sunday evenings. Last time she was at a Disney park was in 2000 at Disney MGM Studios. She did go on the Great Movie Ride, Drew Carrey,The Backlot Tour, Superstar Television, & the walking tour of the movie they were showing props of which was 101 or 102 Dalmations. The time before that she went to Disney MGM Studios in 1997. The time before that Disneyland in 1993(I was in 5th grade at the time & I don't think she went on any ride) The time before that Disneyland 1987. The time before that Disney World Magic Kingdom 1988 & finally Disney World Magic Kingdom 1986(she at least went on the rockets & ONLY time she went on Space Mountain.) but she went to Disneyland many times as a kid but she has to understand that noone can possibly be done going to Disney & never too old for the magic. There's no way I can surprise both my parents because I don't have a job & the money. So I will have to tell my dad at least. What's the best way to surprise her w/a full week Disney World trip & to get her on the rides? We are going to Florida Dec 22-30 but those days are all going to be spent in Naples! HOW BORING! You can spend that long in Disney World! She works at a school so she has to go by the school vacations. She already booked the flight there & back. She doesn't have to be back until Tuesday Jan 5th. So what I was thinking is get my dad to cancel our return flight on the 30th(only if we can I'm not sure) & plan to drive to Orlando from Naples on the 30th instead of going to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. When we are well on our way to Orlando I can say by the way surprise we are going to Disney. She would be angry I just know it & anything but happy. So I don't know if it would be worth it. I would have us come back on Tues the 5th even though she has to be back. Hmmm. Any sugestions? I'm looking for all the help I can get! That would be great!
Or another option is to book a week for spring break in April & my dad & I could tell her the surprise on their anniversery in November. But then she could cancel April if she's not happy.

Being the Disney fanatic that I am I hate to say this, but if she doesn't like Disney why "force" her to go? It seems like you really want to go and I can certainly understand how hard it's going to be being sooo close to Disney yet not at Disney. Would you consider doing Disney on your own and then you'd just have to change your flight or maybe having a friend meet you down there and then you guys can do the week at Disney together?
If anything, I would definitely not spring Disney last minute on someone who is not a fan. |

I can't go to Disney myself. They won't let me. A. I don't have a job. B. I don't have the money. Your right. If I want to go to Disney I should just wait until I can go on my own which won't be for quite a few years & I don't have anyone else to go with.

Don't you mean "how can I talk my mom into taking me to Disney World?" I'm sorry, but that's just a nasty trick you are talking about.

You are an adult with no job living with your parents? And you want them to fund your trip to Disney even though your mom needs a break from kids and doesn't like rides? And you can't travel by yourself because you parents "won't let you"? Do you know how pathetic that all sounds?
It seems like your parents went to Disney a bunch of times because YOU wanted to. Now it is time to sacrifice a little something for them. Please grow up and get a life, and let your mom take the vacation SHE would enjoy, in Naples. |

Sorry, I think this sounds like a horrible idea. If your mom can't ride the rides due to a stiff neck, and doesn't want to spend vacation around children, why would you do this? You're not thinking about what she wants or needs. If you truly want to surprise her with something special TO HER, consider making the Naples trip longer. Go to WDW, on your own or with a friend or whatever, when you have earned the money, yourself, to do so.

I agree w/ the pp's. This is just a bad idea, all around. Particularly if she doesn't like Disney, trying to go during the most crowded week of the year would be a really bad idea. sorry OP, but I think you're just going to have to suck it up and appreciate a relaxing beach vacation. There are a lot of people, including myself and many others on this board, who would have loved a vacation this year and couldn't go because of finances, etc. This would be a good time to show some maturity and gratitude.
ETA: if you want to do something for Her, how about a nice day at the museum in SF when it opens? Sounds like it would appeal to her much more. |

Grow up and stop trying to scam your parents.
But how nice of you to make plans with their money! Funny thing about being an adult. You actually can decide what you like and dislike! And you can go any darn place you want no matter how boring your children think it is! And I swear I will puke if one person tells me that all the OP was doing was to ask for help or advice and did not need this kind of response. Last edited by PinkRhombus; 09-29-2009 at 06:42 PM. |

So you want to surprise your mom with a trip but have her pay for it?
I am sure she will have a lovely time.
