Doubletree DTD or Omni Resort?

We are staying off site for the first two nights of our upcoming stay in November. We will be arriving around 7:00 pm on Sat., and getting up Sunday morning to drive to Tampa to spend the day with family. We should arrive back in Orlando early evening. I booked the Doubletree DTD for $99/night with free breakfast for the 2 nights. I just found out that I can get a rate of $79/night at the Omni Resort. After figuring in breakfasts, resort fees, and parking, we would break even with either hotel.

The Omni has many more ameneties, but we won't have much time to enjoy them; however, it might be a good scouting trip for next time. The Doubletree DTD is in walking distance of DTD, and most of our time there will be in the evenings.

I have never been to either, so I am hoping I can get some opinions from you folks!

Thanks!
Cathy

We got the Omni on a Priceline bid 2 yrs ago.. Wish we could get it again. The room was very large, nice and quiet. There's a Starbucks in the lobby. The pool area was very nice. Wish we could get it again...

Stayed at Doubletree a few years ago. It was nice. The room is a suite with 1 bedroom. The kids were in the living room. We liked it. Sometime you can get a special deal with mousesavers for free food. We really liked it being at DTD. It was the next best thing to on property for us.

Thanks

It looks like one vote for Omni, one for Doubletree DTD. Any other opinions out there? Thank you very much for your thoughts!

Stayed at the Omnie in 2005 for a weekend. Very upscale room, bed linens. The pools were wonderful, as was the lazy river. It is a nice little drive to the parks, but we did not mind at the time. Doubletree would have the bus system that goes to all the Downtown Disney hotels (not Disney ownered buses).

What time of year are you going?

I think there is a club you can join for the Omni and get a few perks.

Just back from the Doubletree. We left yesterday. We were able to get the Mousesavers rate of $79 a night and for that much I really was not expecting much. Our room was filthy. The bathroom does not have an exhaust fan so, we had mold growing on the ceiling and wallpaper. The room smelled musty. There was not adequate parking. I could go on and on. I would not recommend staying there and i do not plan to ever return.

That is disappointing about the Doubletree. It has always received solid reviews on the Disboards and tripadvisor. Also popular on Mousesavers. It is on our list for next fall for an off site hotel We are visiting Sea World & Universal with a few days at Disney. We are considering Embassy Suites LBV or just staying at a Disney value.

I know, I was really excited to stay there since we are now a party of 5, and we need the extra space. I was really disappointed. They were having a special at the Dolphin for $105 a night and I debated on switching my reservation, but after hearing all of the glowing reviews on here and Mousesavers I decided to stay. The whole time I was there i wished we were at the Dolphin.
