When does life get easier?

Shoot, darn it, and all the other words I can say here.

So, I'm in the playground with my kids, and my son says one of those things like, "When I stretch my feet like this it hurts. Can you carry me?" Yeah, right. If the ice cream truck were here, you'd run without another thought. So he went home and rested with a pillow under his foot and went to sleep.

This morning he wakes up with a scream. He tries to get out of bed, and when he puts any pressure on his foot, he's in severe pain. It's real pain. I know because after watching TV, he gets up forgetting that his foot hurts, and immediately crumples up onto the floor in pain after standing on his foot. It's Sunday, and we have a covering doctor who will see him later.

Of course, this happens with kids. However, tonight begins Yom Kippur, the holiest night of the Jewish calendar. There is a ton of preparation to be done today, including eating and hydrating before the 25hour fast. Not only that, but I am the Cantor for tonight's Kol Nidre service and tomorrow morning services. I have extra stuff on my mind, and I am nervous I'm going to be spending the last few precious hours/minutes before sundown driving my son around to doctors and possibly x-rays.

My mind is racing around like it's Daytona 500 in my skull. I can't get a grip. I just hope motrin kicks in and makes his foot better in an hour. This is the only time I've been able to sit down since 7:30 am.

Son of a gun. Cheeze louise.

Oh man. I hope that your son feels better soon. Is there someone you can call to help you today? Maybe someone who would be able to stay with him tonight while you go to services if his foot is too painful?

I hope your son feels better soon. Your son's health should come first before anything else. I think G-d will understand.

Chad. That's rough. I've noticed that life seems out to get faith time.

I echo what Mike said. YHWH R'** will understand if you tend to your son.

Hope it is nothing serious and he is feeling better soon. Pain like that is usually a break or tear in my experience.

On our way to the doctor...

Chad, I honestly know how you feel. I've asked myself that question countless times over the past few months. I hope the answer is yes.

Hang in there Chad! I would agree that these things seem to happen just when you feel least likely to be able (or want) to deal with them.

Hope your son's foot is nothing major and you are able to focus on Yom Kippur.

OK, looks like just a sprain. *whew* We just need to get babysitting coverage for him tomorrow morning. We thought he'd be hanging out in synagogue like he always does. Ain't happening.

Things coming back into place.

Thanks, folks.

It is funny, though. As my wife and I run around trying to get things in order before sunset, I have my son sitting back on the couch calling me whenever he sees a touchdown on TV. Nice.

To all those celebrating Yom Kippur, have a meaningful fast and I wish that we are written and sealed for a year of life, health, and good times.
