Lost our dog today - complications

Our precious dog had to be put down today. She was just 9 years old but had cancer and was very ill. We knew it was the right thing to do but things didn't go as planned. I didn't go with my husband to the vet but he said there were complications. I didn't want to know any details but he came home so traumatized he told me what happened. The needle broke somehow, contents of the injection spilling all down my husband's leg. Instead of our baby passing quietly her last 30 seconds were spent squealing in pain. We kept this news from our daughter who hopefully won't come here and see this.

The vet's office said we can come back Monday and pay them. I don't want to pay them at all. I never want to go back there again with our other fur babies.

I know we could cope better with the loss if it hadn't ended this way. I don't even know how to make peace in my mind with the way things ended. Somehow we'll have to but we're devastated.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. Your family and your poor suffering pet have my sympathy.

Have you tried petloss.com? It is a great website for those of us who have recently lost a beloved pet. I know it can be hard to come to terms with a loss and it will take time. Try to take comfort in knowing that your dog is no longer in pain and is no longer suffering. Best wishes.

I am so sorry. What a horrible thing for your sweet dog (and husband) to go through.

When you are feeling up to it, you or your husband should try to speak with maybe an officer manager or the vet directly. The office staff may not have known or might not have the authority to do anything about your bill.

It'd be a cold day in hell before I'd pay them a thing.

And I am very sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. Our pets creep in on their four paws and find a way into our hearts, don't they...

I'm so sorry for all of you! Many years ago, I had an experience with a complication as well, although not as bad as yours. I'm sorry to have to tell you, it will stay with you and your husband always. When a person witnesses something that traumatizing, it changes who you are.

I too would not be paying that vet bill.

I had something similar happen with my cat. She was 18 years old and was in a very bad and unexpected situation where it was clear that she needed to be euthanized quickly. I don't know what happened, but the 10 minutes after she was given the shot were some of the worst of my life.

And the vet charged me nothing. He never even suggested it.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dog. And there would be no way that I would pay them a nickel. I do understand that mistakes and accidents happen (as horrible as they can be), but that doesn't mean it should cost you (any more than it already has).

So sorry this day came for little Ginger, Liz. My best wishes for you, Laura and all your family. s Ginger is there, at the bridge, enjoying herself, and waiting.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
