Personalized Mickey ears and meeting Mickey

I am heading to the World next weekend with a friend who has never visited WDW. 2 things she really wants are the personalized ears and to meet Original Mickey( Mickey dressed in his classic wear). First , is there a best place for the ears? We will be in Downtown Disney the first day, but will be at the MK the second. And any info you can give me about Original Mickey would be super helpful. I remember something about a meet and greet in ToonTown, but I don't know when or which Mickey it is. Thanks so much!!

The Chapeau on MK's Main Street is a great "ears" place.

But, you can also get them at Disney Days of Christmas in DTD.

The Chapeau is a good spot, as the pp said, but if you want to get them in DTD to avoid spending park time doing it, we just got our kids' ears at Wonderful World of Memories in DTD - it's connected to the make your own t-shirt shop and had both ready made ears and the make your own ears and they personalize them there too.

Edited to add: As for Mickey, not sure if you mean the red shorts as "classic" mickey, but I've never seen him in those. You can catch him in his traditional "suit" in both Toontown at the MK, and also at the character spot in Future World at Epcot. You can usually see him in his Safari wear at AK, but I don't think you'll catch him there in his regular suit. Not sure if you can catch him in his regular suit at DHS or not, I know you can sometimes find him there in his sorcerer's robes there at the Animation Academy, though.

If by "original" you mean in his suit, he is always available at the Judge's Tent in Toontown (except maybe during parades?). DH and I met him with a short wait there by getting to Toontown at their rope drop and heading straight to the Judge's Tent. Right now, it seems everyone will be heading for Pixie Hollow to meet the fairies anyway, so you should be able to get in for a pic quickly.

Here's our picture:

It used to be that Mickey was dressed in a number of different outfits in the Toontown meet & greets.

So, I'm not sure if they only offer him in his traditional there at all times now.

I definitely disagree about the Chapeau!

We tried to go there to get our ears on September 5, and it had been completely taken over by Halloween ears! Nothing extra or unusual at all, and no make-your-own. They had the standard ears you can get in every shop at WDW, but other than that it was all Halloween stuff. Which is fine if you want that, but we were there at the start of September and didn't go to MNSSHP.

We ended up getting make-your-own at Wonderful World of Memories.

Those aren't great pictures ... mine has a royal blue base with flecks of gold, black ears with fireworks on them, and a patch of the castle. DH's has a black base, one black ear and one holographic red ear, and a Mickey-in-front-of-American-flag patch (he just got his US citizenship). They both had our names on the back and the total was $17 each--it costs about as much to buy a base and the ears as to buy a set of ready-made ears; the only extra expense is the patches.
