Just Back - Food Review

DH and I got back from Disney a few days ago. It was spectacular! Crowds were good, weather was nice (albeit hot), and the food was yummy

I kept forgetting to take pictures so I only have a few

Day 1 - Lunch at Yak & Yeti & Dinner at Jiko
Y&Y: DH and I both got honey chicken, chocolate cake, and a coke. The coke was probably the best thing we had. The chicken was nothing more than chicken nuggets with honey sauce on them. The rice was good, but the chicken was just okay. I hope they don't serve the same thing when you sit down to eat at Y&Y.

Jiko: We had the Taste of Africa appetizer. It was good, but spicy. They also served us African cornbread with homemade butter. It was really good.

I had the infamous short ribs and DH had the Ahi Tuna. The short ribs were amazing! DH said the Ahi was good.

I had lemon curd with sour cream ice cream and blueberry/pomegranet compote for dessert. It was very tasty. The sour cream ice cream wasn't what I expected at all. It wasn't sweet at all, which was perfect because it was paired with sweet sutff. I wish they sold it at the grocery store because I would definitely buy it.

Day 2 - Dinner at Kona Cafe
Kona Cafe is one of our new favorite restaurants! We liked O'Hana, but we loved KC. We decided not to get an appetizer because of the yummy Hawaiian bread with even yummier nut butter. We ate the whole loaf! I stole DH's drink credit and got the Kona Coffee ("costs" two drink credits when on the DDP). It smelled so good and was delicious (not too strong, which I like).

I had the Mahi-Mahi with bok-choy and Japanese noodles (pic 1) and DH had the Tuna Oscar (pic 2). Both were cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor. You can see that DH didn't like his at all

DH had the chocolate fondue and I had the banana-chocolate creme brulee for dessert. This was my favorite dessert of the whole trip. It was just perfect!

Day 3 - Victoria & Albert's
So good I can't even remember what I had (okay, I can't find the menus). Everything we ate was delicious! DH did the wine pairing, I did not. Everyone should try V&A!

Day 4 - California Grill
This was our most disappointing meal of the whole trip. Our reservation was at 9:15pm (the fireworks were at 10pm, so I thought this would be perfect). To make a VERY long story short . . . we didn't get seated until 9:59pm and our meals weren't served until 10:45pm. We had the sushi for an appetizer, I had the scallops with gnocchi, and DH had the filet. We got the sushi at 10:30pm and the meals at 10:45pm. We were so disgusted (and not hungry anymore), so we had them box up the meals and the desserts (something chocolate) and we took them back to our hotel. We tried eating the stuff when we got home, but it was just gross. I spoke to the manager when we left and got all of our dining credits back. The best thing about CG was the view we had for the fireworks. We won't be going back

Day 5 - Snacked the whole day
The School Bread in Norway at Epcot is delicious. For those of you who haven't had it yet, it's a roll (not sweet at all) filled with what tasted like
eclair cream and then topped with icing and sprinkled with toasted coconut. I'm not a fan of coconut, but I loved the school bread. I will definitely get
this from now on.

The carrot cake cookie at the Writer's Stop is huge and yummy! It's basically two carrot cake cookies (with raisins, no nuts) with cream cheese icing in the middle. Someone on this board said there was butterceam icing in the middle of the cookies, but the one I had was definitely filled with cream cheese icing (I'm in the wedding cake business, so I know icing!). GET ONE OF THESE COOKIES!!!

Day 6 - Tokyo Dining in Japan at Epcot
I forgot my camera, so I don't have any pictures. The people who worked here were so sweet. They all had smiles on their faces and they seated us two hours before our ADR. We both had sushi, which was great. DH had ice cream for dessert and I had the chocolate ginger cake. I wasn't a huge fan of the ginger layer of the cake, but the chocolate icing was yummy!

Day 7 - Turkey Legs at MK (YUMMMMMMMMMY!)

I hope you enjoyed the review

Great reviews and excellent pictures! I especially like the one of your DH's plate

Bummer you had such a sour experience at California Grill.. it was the highlight meal of our trip! (We were also there about 2-3 hours, leisurely eating several courses, with our main entrees coming right after a late Wishes)

I call the bread service at Kona..... "Kona Crack". And you probably know what I'm talking about! They must put something in it to make the bread and butter so addictive.

I think part of the reason you had a bad experience at California Grill was that you scheduled your meal close to the fireworks time. If you had a meal nowhere near the fireworks time, I think you'd have a different experience. I don't do the dining plan, so I usually have starters as my meal. The sushi and flatbreads have been consistently good. If you give CA Grill another shot, but not anywhere near fireworks time, you might find yourself having a good meal.

Bummer that you didn't take pics at V&A! That's where you'd want food porn. Their food is incredibly pretty to look at.

Awwwww so sorry about your CG experience we have eaten there 3 times in the past 12 months alone and all of our meals were amazing!

It really is shocking! I don't doubt it happened, it's just sad. I'm glad to hear you weren't charged the dining credits for the horrible experience.
