Is October a good time to take 1st-timers?
We've finally talked my in-laws into going to WDW!!! They've never been there before and are very excited to go. We're planning to go next Oct. followed by a 4 night cruise on the Wonder(which we've already booked but could change if need be).
We've never been there in Oct. and I'm a bit worried about how busy it might be. My kids have been asking for 3 years to go to MNSSHP and I'd love to surprise them by taking them to it! Do you think Oct. is a good time to bring newbies to WDW, especially if they're recently retired?

Yes! it is a great time to go. I took my wife and two daughters for their first time at WDW in the beginning of Oct. last year. The crowds were very small, lines short. EPCOT has the Food and Wine Festival going on and of course the MNSSHP. We had a great time going in Oct.

I think that October is a great time to go with first timers. The weather is warm, but not as humid as it is in the summer. The fall/Halloween decorations are fantastic and the crowds are not bad at all.

Yes!!!! Low-crowds, great weather, fun fall decorations, Food & Wine.
We went in October of last year, (see trip report below), and had the BEST TIME EVER.

OCtober is a great time. Like a pp said, avoid Columbus Day weekend. I have been a few times in October , and the weather and crowds have always co-operated! so go and have tons of fun with your family!

I'm plannign a trip for next Oct. also and was wondering, does the food and wine things last all month? Are there a lot of extra people in Epcot due to this?

It is a wonderful time to go, perfect weather, perfect crowd level, lots of extras (F&W, halloween party). Who knows, maybe next year they will run free DP again as well. Go ahead, book it.

Oh, and I was planning on going the 7th-the 14th but maybe not since Columbus Day will fall in there. Maybe the first week of Oct. would be best?

I'm afraid we would be there near Columbus day as our cruise is on Oct. 17...Columbus day is that Monday before. I know we'll want to do the parks before the cruise.
Guess it depends on when we fly in. Is all of Columbus week crazy or just the Sat, Sun and Mon?

heck ya october is a great time to go...
Regarding the weather thing... We have been in Oct every year since 2001 and last year the weather was strange...It didnt get out of the 60's (seriously)and the nights were pretty darn chilly...We are hoping that is not the case next month as we are watching recent hi's and lows until we leave in the middle of Oct. Will never ferget that last year cause it was so out of the ordinary... usually its in the low to mid 80s as we look forward to one more warm time before our cold new england winters by going to florida in October... We were basically last year going from cold fall weather to cold fall weather... |

our first trip to WDW was in October 1991. A magical time! We made two other October trips, and then trips at other times over the years. Last trip was early December. Think that was my favorite time - but it also could have been because it was our first stay at the Poly - a truly wonderful resort
