Booking flights online and check in query

This is quite probably a stupid question but do you have to check in online if you've booked online. I thought it was optional, but a colleague says that when they booked a flight online to Ibiza recently they had loads of problems at the airport because they should've checked in on-line

and if you do have to, obviously it's not a problem from home, but how do you manage at the other end, as I understand it you have to print your own boarding pass, do the hotels have facilities for this ?

Flying with Flybe from Cardiff if that makes a difference, last time I booked through Airmiles, so had to check in at the airport.

Thanks for the help.

I checked in on line with Flybe on the way out of Manchester but just checked in at the airport on the way home.

Be warned though, Flybe fly in and out of terminal 1 in Charles de Gaulle. Once you go through security to your gate cluster, there are no shops and only one small coffee bar so only go there before you fly, not for 2hrs like we did!

I really think it varies airline to airline.

On my BMIbaby flights, I can check in online only if I have no hold luggage. If I choose not to check in online (ie use the check-in desks at the airports) I am charged £10 extra on my booking.

In May, there was no online check-in facility at Paris CDG, so we checked in as normal at the check-in desks there, and were not charged any extra. However, I notice now on the BMIbaby website that apparently all airports they use now have the online check-in facility.

I have no idea how I'm going to use the online check-in facility for my journey from CDG to East Mids, as I don't have a laptop, and have no idea how to do it away from home . I think I'll have to contact BMIbaby before I book my flights, and ask that specific question.

Is there anything on the flybe site that tells you what your options are regarding online check-in? All the check-in options, and the various charges, are part of the booking process on the BMIbaby site.

Steve that should read only one small closed coffee bar, found that one out last time

So digging really deep into Flybe's website it seems that online check in is optional with them and Flybe doesn't have online checkin at CWL anyway.

I'm a such a worrier and as I'm arranging the hol, I've got to get it right. I'm the kind of person who has to know exactly what I'm doing, what to expect and I like everything to go to plan, just hope Flybe don't let me down again

Thanks both
