cat 6 vs cat 7? Anyone here stay in both?

I think we are in for one of the Alaskan cruises. In previous cruises we have stayed in a cat. 6 and a cat. 8, but thought a cat. 7 would be a nice way to still have a view for a little less. Can anyone compare the 6 vs. 7? I have seen pics of the 7, but was hoping someone who has stayed in both can give their input. We are booking on DVC points and could swing the 6 if necessary, but would rather not! The cabin would be just for DH and myself, and my boys (will be 20 and 21) will stay in a cat. 11.

Thank you!

I can't answer the question about 1 versus the other, but depending on when you book, there are 4 "secret verandah" cabins that used to be Cat 5 or 6 but were reclassified to 7 since the verandah has a partial obstruction. They're the 1st cat 7 cabins on deck 7 and deck 6 (1 on each side of ship). That's a great way to get a verandah at a lower price, especially if you get one of the 2 on deck 7. If we were only 3 people I'd book Cat 7 all the time I think, but alas they don't hold 4. We booked 2 of the SV rooms on our first cruise for our family and it was awesome!

I've stayed in both. Frankly, I think the 7 is a great way to save a little money while enjoying a balcony. If you can get one of the "reclassified" ones, that's even better (these were 5s and 6s that were reclassified due to slightly obstructed views. In our's, one corner of the ceiling area had a little obstruction from a metal piece of the ship.

Actually I think a navigators verandah might be the perfect choice for Alaska. It gives you more protection from the elements, but still allows for a great view.

Good Luck with your decision!

I have stayed in both and think both are excellent choices. If you are looking to save a few dollars, a cat 7 is a great room!

The 'secret' cat. 7's are 7120, 7620, 6134 and 6634. The pics of these are posted somewhere on this site. We had friends that stayed in 7620 and we liked the verandah and have this cabin booked on the Magic next year and the Wonder the following year. If you can get one of these 4 cabins grab it and save the points.

DW and I always book either 7120 or 7620 if they are available for the cruise we am going on. They are the "best for the money". We will be in 7120 on January 9, 2010. The pictures are at *************.

There are pictures of these rooms in the Virtual Stateroom Tour in the DIS DCL FAQ thread under the heading STATEROOMS.
